I had the same problem, now with the new indications it is solved and it works well even on real hardware

Great, did you follow the updated sticky above? Someone is saying it did not work for him on that thread.

yes sure rodw, i used this:
forum.linuxcnc.org/ethercat/45336-etherc...-how-to-step-by-step
and commented out the old repository in sources.list
