Raspberry Pi 4b + bookwarm + 7i76E ethernet connection problem

Category: PnCConf Wizard

I think you are chasing the wrong thing. ip6 has nothing to do with it
In this video about 16 minutes in, I explain networking and how to set this up with a mesa card

Raspberry Pi 4b + bookwarm + 7i76E ethernet connection problem

Category: PnCConf Wizard

Hi Guys,
I have problem with configuration connection between raspberry pi 4b and mesa card's 7i76e.
I downloaded official LinuxCNC 2.9.2 "Raspberry Pi 4 OS based on Debian Bookworm" from linuxcnc.org/downloads/ , and after installation is version 2.9.1 (?).
First trying, I used standard setting jumper w3 (up), ip: 192.168.1.121 and I add contents to file /etc/network/interfaces:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.1
netmask 255.255.255.0
hardware-irq-coalesce-rx-usecs 0

but every time I have problem with ping 7i76e.
Configuration ifconfig -a showed inet6 , so I was thinking about problem with active ipv6. Next I tried disable ipv6, but after reboot ipv6 was active. (ipv6 is enabled by kernel). So - I added ipv6 to kernel blacklist. All the time i cant pinging mesa card. I change setting for ip 10.10.10.10, jumper, and the same situation. I use two ethernet cable, with configuration:
1-3   and   1-3
2-6             2-6
3-1             3-1
4-4             4-7
5-5             5-8
6-2             6-2
7-7             7-4
8-8             8-5
When I ping 7i76e 4 green leds are flashing with 1Hz frequency with binary code, but is mistake connection.
I used many different configuration, but every time is the same effect.
I havent more ideas. Tomorrow I try used fresh system again...
Somebody has any idea?

No, the Ethernet chip has no non-volatile memory

Ok, I think technically I could replace it but do these chips have internal firmware that needs to be programmed?

If the Ethernet chip is hot, its likely been damaged by ESD

Hi

I have a 7i76e that was given to me a longer time ago because it was faulty and I don't know what happened to it exactly. It's been sitting on the shelf ever since until I stumbled over it lately.

A visual inspection turned up nothing unusual, no holes in chips where magic smoke might have escaped. Upon applying power the field power led is lit as well as the pwr fail led. I checked and 3v3 is indeed shorted. In addition the ethernet controller chip gets hot, not smoking hot but definitely hotter than it should get.

Should I expect the ethernet chip to be the cause or is the cause rather somewhere else and it getting hot is just a symptom?

Kind regards
Martin

Ah... different GS2, this should be correct:

P00.20 = 2 Frequency command from analog input
P02.00 = 1 DI1 = RUN/STOP DI2 = FWD/REV

This doesn't work and I suspect that your Parameters may be incorrect.
Manual located here .
Thanks for your feedback though.

You need to set DI1 to RUN and DI2 to FWD/REV to work with the 7I76E
I think this is P3.01 = 1

7i76e to Durapulse connection

Yes, correct.
DI1 = Digital Input 1 = FORWARD
DI2 = Digital Input 2 = REVERSE

That looks correct for SINK mode, assuming you can program
DI1 to be RUN/STOP,  DI2 to be FWD/REV and frequency
command from analog 0-10V input

I think this is P3.01 = 1 and P4.00 = 2

Can someone kindly verify these settings for my Durapulse GS21-23P0 please?
