Installing LinuxCnc on and SSD

Okay, is qtplasmac built in to the basic config wizard now? Or do I have to download it or upload something for it?

The other part I always mess up is after installing.

so I’m going to config a machine with 7i76eu + thcad-2 (I think, whatever model the currently have). So I need to configure the system with plasmac

i alway alway forget how to set plasmac on the system.

Thank you, I’m getting this… so maybe my SSD is bad. But it’s new so I didn’t know

Installing LinuxCnc on and SSD

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Wait!

I think I think I remember where to find the instructionsFresh installs of LinuxCNC are most easily created using the Live/Install Image. This is a hybrid ISO filesystem image that can be written to a USB storage device or a DVD and used to boot a computer. At boot time you will be given a choice of booting the "Live" system (to run LinuxCNC without making any permanent changes to your computer) or booting the Installer (to install LinuxCNC and its operating system onto your computer’s hard drive). The outline of the process looks like this:
  1. Download the Live/Install Image.
  2. Write the image to a USB storage device using Rufus.
  3. Boot the Live system to test out LinuxCNC.
  4. Boot the Installer to install LinuxCNC.

Installing LinuxCnc on and SSD

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hello,

first off I want to apologize. I know this is asked all the time and I have asked it before. Though I always ALWAYS have tons of trouble with this and I don’t know why.

I have an external SSD drive that I want linuxcnc on. I have a usb drive I intend to use as the downloader for that SSD drive. I can never fully figure out how to do this properly.

It will control a plasma CNC table that utilizes an Ethernet mesa card. I do not want a live system. I want a fully functional and programmable one

what do I download onto the usb to format the SSD?

again I’m sorry!

Okay I will do that, Thank you! How does this sound?

Would you be able to give me any more information on the pipe cutter? Programming wise, design wise, issues, and all? Please, and thank you.

I subscribed to them all!

I couldn’t find any video explaining the pipe cuter though. What kind of motor did you use and how did you set it up?

Yes exactly like that! I tried looking for more information about that build specifically but couldn’t seem to find the right keyword to pull it up.

I would love more information on the design of that, the motor used, the way Linuxcnc is best incorporate to fit that, and all.

i don’t think I realized that was your video, is it?

Sorry I may have explained it weirdly. It will only be a 3 axis machine. X is the pipe rolling, y is the fixed are torch holder moving, and z is the torch probing.

the torch will be fastened to fixed arm centered on the pipe. The arm itself will move the fixed torch on the y axis with a stepper motor.

Pipe:
-up to 4 feet but generally no longer than 1 foot
-up to 10” possibly
-2 roller supports bearing the weight of the pipe

The torch will move on the Y axis and the Z axis. The pipe will rotate on the X axis

I’m going to build a pipe cutting plasma. To spin the pipe it will be in a lathe chuck. What kind of motor should I use to spin the lathe chuck? The pipe will be very well supported as well as the chuck. So it won’t be too heavy on the chuck itself.

I'm concerned that a stepped motor might not provide enough strength, but I need something I can control precisely.

Compensating For Angled Cut

Category: Plasma & Laser

The 85 power Mac has a minimum output voltage of 23 or something. So I don’t think marking will work. Though I’m going to have an air scribe attachment anyways. That’s going to be another point to figure out. I know is simple, but I just haven’t done one yet.

reply to this comment “Positional compensation for tool side rotation is something that can be done using custom kinematics and there are several sim configs that use it for TCP mode in 5axis machines”

is there something I can read up on or watch to get more info for that?

Compensating For Angled Cut

That marking thing seems pretty nice, you think a Hypertherm 85 can do that? I would love to have a fully rotating robotic arm for the torch. Though for now I'm going to stick with a fixed manual angle for the torch.

Is there something I can do in Linuxcnc to have it "automatically" compensate for the angled offset?

Compensating For Angled Cut

Category: Plasma & Laser

I see what you’re saying. That is a predicament, though I can figure that out later alike you mentioned. It may be solvable with the same me mechanism as the dial and some more thought as well. Though for now I’ll disable the THC.

how about the offset issue? Rotating the torch will offset the predicted cut point from the actual cut point. Can I program that out?
