Mesa hm2/hm2_7i96s.0: error finishing read

Category: Driver Boards

So I've managed to get the PCI NIC working to access the internet and the onboard NIC to communicate with the 7i96S.

The first one is the PCI NIC and the second one the onboard NIC. One thing I noticed is the speed of the onboard NIC is 100Mbit/s even though it's a 2.5 GbE card, is that normal?

Haven't been working on this particular board a lot since I don't use it myself. Been busy with a voltage reader for plasma and IO, for my plasma cutter and that works great.
If you continue to use the STM32F407 you should check that there are free timers available. Probable there are, but I used a lot of timers I remember.
Earlier in the thread there is an attachment with spindle control schematics, maybe you already had a look on that one.
My spindles are all controlled via Modbus/VFD and the 3V analog output was put there for good measure.
There could have been connectors for I2C and SPI to easily add on functionality controlled by the STM32. Maybe something you can think of.

I said above that analog was confirmed, not true as I was seeing parameters, not pins.
I've read many posts about enabling the analog mode for inputs 0-7, but cannot get my head around the syntax.

looks like it might be
loadrt hm2_7i92.0.7i73.0.2 config="sserial_port_0=01000000"

But I'm not certain

Would you check for please.
Thanks

Manual homing does not move on any axis

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thanks for the reply JT
I have since reconfigured the axis wiring and discovered that there was a very slight and extremely slow movement which has been overcome by resetting the homing speed . We are still using version 2.7 as we had this working adequately two years ago and I would prefer to ensure we have a working machine before I upgrade the OS and install 2.9.
The homing on our z axis is working extremely well with a pair of relatively new mechanical micro-switches but x and y are proving stubborn with our original switches that are about 20 years old so I will by some new ones and see if their response is better.
We only get to work on this machine a few hours per week so changes are rather slow.
Thanks once again.

i was not happy with the force to spin this thing but it seems the bigger you go the greater the torque needed based on some digging with manufacturer specs i found. i found these that i could buy over seas but they require 3.5 Nm of torque. i'm not sure if that is breakaway or running torque? i'm thinking it's breakaway but i am not sure at this point. if i can figure out a way to test this so i can get a feel for it i might be at a fork in the road moment and end up just biting the bullet and buying these is it seems better than what i was seeing with what i was doing. 3,5 Nm seems like a lot of torque needed?

Can't eek out that last bit of jitter

Last time I had a bit of a succes on preempt_rt with moving the base thread to another cpu (only with 6.13), but perhaps worth a shot.
Change the CPU numbers and run as sudo. In the script CPU1 is the base thread and CPU2 the servo thread.

What value does statusword have?
Look in the manual what that means. That is what prevents cia402 component to ask the drive to enable.
The drive will not enable until that condition is sorted out. Even if you write F to the drive it will reject it until status is fixed.

Hi, Thanks for your further development. I have been away from Ethercat for a long time. In the past I have been experimenting with designing a +-10V PWM for my analog spindle. It works but I have not tested it in practice. I will add this circuit to the Ethercat board.

One step closer. mmmm. motors being so much smaller gives a lot more room in the enclosure too which is nice.
Z has no brake, but being shorted to the resistor in the drive lets the spindle drop very slowly now, so nothing bad will happen from a sudden power cut. now... to make it run!

I see the basic problem.
The original vismach updates every 100ms but only if something changes.
Qtvcp updates every 100 ms no matter what.

I'm looking into what library options there are to correct this.
In the mean time, you can increase the buffer in qt_vismach.py
look for:
self.plotlen = 16000

Laser Head Height Sensor – Looking for a Beta Tester

Category: Plasma & Laser

Not sure what all types of laser heads this will work with but I'm about to stick a diode laser on a PnP machine I built but shelved. I'll be doing that in the next few days, I could stick this thing on it while I'm converting it over if that's the type of testing you're looking for.

I use a custom carrier board for a Mesa 7i92. Not sure what other kind IO capabilities that thing has but I think the only suitable input I have is an "SmartSerial" port. That's a 2.5Mbaud RS422 port which is what people tend to use around here for stuff like this since Mesa cards are the king of the hill. I could also swap the RS422 transceiver for a dual RS422 receiver to make it a quadrature encoder input.

If you are using a custom .ui file then load it in designer and save it again.
If you are using a default .ui, then pull again, the fix has been pushed.
