The rest seems to be triggered by this.

I don't think that is the problem, I have just built a 2.9 VM using the same version and I see the same error message but it still loads correctly. I think that is an internal QtVCP message that probably should be muted normally.

Is there any more info on screen with "debug" in it?
Maybe post ~/linuxcnc_debug.txt and linuxcnc_print.txt after a  unsuccessful run attempt.

I have one DM556 driver that is capable of 4A RMS maximum.

That is all.

Yes, that is all the drive can do but does the motor actually need 4.6 amps to run his machine? My guess probably not.

Tool unclamp / air pulse/ clamp logic without ATC carousel

Hard wired button. If you add an ATC you would use a motion.digital pin in the ATC stubs to activate, but you would still need the manual button for hand the spindle to store in the carousel.

Tool unclamp / air pulse/ clamp logic without ATC carousel

So I have a pneumatic atc spindle, with 4 pneumatic functions (unclamp, clamp, air blast and seal cleaning air(always on when machine runs)) and some sensors. But I don´t have an ATC carousel yet.

This means I have to load the tools manually, via the Tool tab, and by actuating some pneumatic valves by hand in order to get the tool to be released.
If I enable the ATC tab, I can also use the clamp / unclamp buttons (not sure yet if these are directly triggering the m64 P# or calling the subroutine. If subroutine, I could add logic over there)

What is the recommended way to manually load tools in Probe Basic?

Is there some dialog or button I can use to call the subroutine for clamping, airpulse and unclamping which I´m overlooking?
Or is the expectation that this is handled via a hardwired button, as long as no ATC is used?

I would just run with what you have and save your money for now. You just might be surprised!
Just because a stepper motor is rated to 4.6 amps does not mean it will use all of that in your application.

For example, yesterday I did a motor design for gantry. The motors are rated to 2.0 amps but the calculations say it will use 1.3 amp peak and 1.0 amps RMS. So if I set the  drive to use 1.5 amps instead of 2.0 amps, it would make no difference to performance. 
The calcs say I need at least 48 volts to meet my design parameters

So here is a humble stepper able to run at 60 m/min rapids and 5 m/s/s accelleration on a basic 48 volt power supply. Initially, I thought I might need servos but I have a bunch of these Sanyo Denkis on hand.

Yup, those should do just fine, i have 4 installed in a big router for probably 8-10 years, still working.
Although i think after DM556, the DM860 is the most counterfeit drive, ever.
But hey, the price is very good, to bad i can not buy them as i would get at least 20 right now. I have to pay the same price for the so called TB6600 and still be happy about it! :)

is that actually a magnetic encoder under the hood? wow

cant comment on the ec500 hardware, but you can check if your z is actually working by opening up halshow and turning on the index-enable signal and rotating the encoder. it should reset the encoder revs to 0 if index turns on, and then the index-enable signal will turn off. sometimes z doesnt show up well in halshow

Hmmmmm... hawing advised my own brother to buy a Bambu about two months ago, i am in a pickle as i still have not told him to cancel it nor did i ask if he did buy it, so i need to make a call.
For now the only viable options remain, depending on budget, Creality stuff, preferably CR versions but they do tend to get in the Prusa price range or more, Prusa, and Creality K1 or K2 or whatever is the latest version of it with multicolor option.
Enders are OK now that Bambu is out, as A1 mini killed them in a single swoop, but resurrection happened! :)
Prusa are a bit pricey, still, but good quality and open source everything
Creality CR versions are much better, had about 11 of those (3X CR10MAX, 2XCR5Pro, CR30, CR6 two color, CR10S V2, some others and Ender 5 Plus, the only issues ever was Ender 5 clogging several times till i changed the hotend, then modified it and made rally fast and abused the poor thing for several years without a hiccup) but they were quite hefty priced, no idea what the situation is now, and the only one still with me is a CR5PRO modified for high temps and klipperised, in use for several years and had a broken motor cable on it once.

And do double check the K1/K2 situation as i am not sure if the new one was K2 or K1 plus or whatever they decide to call them, not very good at naming things those at Creality. :)
Of the CR variety, try finding a used CR10S V2 with BL-Touch, not with an inductive sensor, never had a failed print on it, ever, although slow, but it can continue prints on power failure with it's original firmware. If you can find it for 200$, it beats the living s#it out of Enders, and does 300x300x400mm so not small.
CR 5 Pro is also good, but only modified to direct drive and while at it change the hot end to high temp one, put a lid above it and print ABS/HIPS, i would gladly pay 250$ for a well cared one. Be aware that printing PLA with the open door is a must, even PETG, and as is will not be good for ABS/HIPS.
Also be aware that CR 5 PRO is a 32.5KG beast, so not easy to move by one person, at all, i know i moved it several times! :(
