Chasing Threads and Re-Threading

Category: Off Topic and Test Posts

Greetings. I've been looking online but havent figured out what size tap i need for a thread in my engine block where a 17mm metric sized bot goes in to botl on the tensioner. I appreciate any help!
I think I will have to rethread it. It would be my first time.

For absolutely no reason at all, I decided to make it fancy. Now I can choose the orientation of the center of the switch sweep, like noon, 3, 6 or 9 o'clock.

If I were to do this again, I would probably start measurements like a unit circle, with all angular measurements a positive value from the x-axis, CCW. Live and learn.

mill 4th axis

In addition to info from spumco.

Commercial suppliers of 4th axis usualyl differenciate between positioner (brake opens, thing rotates, brake closes)
Movable axis which allow light milling up to heavy milling. (workpiece weigth torqure)
Movable axis that are even fast enough to do turning operations. (sometimes even with direct drive)

If a positioner is "good enough" it makes things a lot easier.

Ok I pushed some work on this.

vismach_mill_xyz should show case it.

in your vismach script you need to add:
on top:
from qtvcp.core import Status
STATUS = Status()

and in the Window class:
        STATUS.connect('motion-type-changed', lambda w, data: v.choosePlotColor(data))
        # uncomment to change feed color and to see all colors
        #v.setColorsAttribute('FEED',(0,1,0))
        #print(v.colors)

I want my desktop to look like this:https://www.tecmint.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/xfce-11.jpg

I like the mouse background! Is that still available as an option in LinuxCNC?

It reminds me of the startup screen on Heidenhain TNC640, since it's no secret that it's just an application running in Linux on XFCE desktop. In fact, my job programming for and running a Hermle 5-axis mill is part of why I decided to finally start using LinuxCNC at home.

I am otherwise totally new to Linux, and I haven't even bothered to figure out how to change the desktop background yet. I am one of those weird people that usually keep the default desktop background.

Fast Hole EDM from Hacked Parts

Yes, duty cycle is the correct pin.

Is the frequency reasonable and the valid bit set?

It sounds like the EDM output is single ended which means:

1. The EDM duty cycle output should connect to TB2 pin 13 (IDX+)
2. The EDM signal ground should connect to TB2 pin 15 (7I96S ground)
3. The 7I96S IDX input should be jumpered for TTL mode (W1 left)
4. 7I96S IDX- (TB2 pin 14) must be left unconnected

Note the if you connected the inputs to TB2 pins 13 and 14 without a ground
and ran the EDM system you may have damaged the EDM output or
7I96S input.

I should have explained more.
point = [wx, wy, wz]
if not self.plotdata or point != self.plotdata[-1]:
self.plotdata.append(point)
This adds a plot point. We would need to change it to also add color.

point = [wx, wy, wz,color]
or maybe better:
self.plotdata.append([point, color])

then later in the file:
#GL.glColor3f(1.0, 0.5, 0.5)

GL.glBegin(GL.GL_LINE_STRIP)
for p,c in self.plotdata:
GL.glColor3f(*c)
GL.glVertex3f(*p)
GL.glEnd()

a few other initialization and clearing details to follow up. but that might work.

Another update.  It seemed that I didn't have the Mesa tied to ground properly.  It is now tied to earth ground (I also tied the shielding into earth ground). The jittering all went away and now the 'hm2_7i96s.0.periodm.00.duty_cycle' is sitting at 0 even when the EDM is running.  Anyone have any ideas?

Is 'hm2_7i96s.0.periodm.00.duty_cycle' the correct pin?

Use the one Rod linked to on his google drive as it handles screen resolutions much much better.

With Linuxcnc is somethings works generally users stick with it. There is still many machines running earlier versions of Linuxcnc on Ubuntu 10 series.

Think of a machine running Linuxcnc the same as an ECU on a pre 2000's car or bike, if it works don't mess with it..........unless you're racing ;)
