In the bash prompt, you type in the command "ethercat pdos". This will list all pdos of all ethercat slaves in your system.
You have to wade through that output and see what options the device give you.

i use debian 10 with linuxcnc 2.9.pre0 and ethercat 1.5.

for use Pdo at 64 bit write in xml :

so the versaprobe i can use only with the 3d probe correctly?

I use Mitsubishi MRj5 and it have encoder absolute value multiturn , without battery memory wirh resolution 26 bit.

With 26 bit you have much count for revolution and 32 bit pos-command hal pin, is full in 326 cm travel axis , with screew 10 mm pitch.

In drive parameter gear normally 1/1 , if you make a long machine with travel 10 meter , not can use 1/1 gear in drive , because after 326 cm moving , the pos-command return on -326 cm and linuxcnc return following error. For resolve now have increase gear in drive at 1/100 and can travel now 32600 cm. But normally is good have gear at 1/1 and use a 64 bit variable for command position and feedbak position.

I have bought this engraving machine to retrofit for my end use and want to learn from it. I want to know what size of steppers? I am thinking of attaching steppers using couplers, but is this type good?

STEP/DIR is the way to go and maybe the Makerbase TMC5160 board is preferable since you can set your parameters with jumpers.
 

In your ini file you have references calling those two files, and those two files are not in your config folder.
If there is nothing you added to those files, edit the ini and omit those two entries calling those files, save, try again.

Found the issue!

Checked all encoder connections, everythings fine. Removed the encoder cover and found small aluminum chips, removed them carfully and sealed it of better. Still the same issue.

The problem turned out to be the powersupply I suspect the thing was overheating after a while and shut off so the motor skipped some steps.

I will add cooling fans with fin filters to keep aluminum chips out. Thanks for the help I am happy to have cleared the chips from my encoder.

Hey guys, I'm struggling. I am beyond frustrated with trying to get Probe Basic to launch fully. I have been trying to get this to work for the better part of 18 hours. 

Here is what I know. 
I can launch the Dev with the sim on the PC. 
I figured out that one of my issues was the screen size. I now have a compatible screen installed. 
I have reinstalled the bookworm iso and followed the instructions several times.
I have cleaned and wiped the system at least 6 times and still always come back to an error launching.
i was having the issue of probe basic not launching error but after a wipe and reinstall and apt repair it seems to have gone away.  
I am now stuck at this point where "I think" I'm missing the custom.hal. I can not find any hal file by that name. 

I have attached a text file of the crash report. I would be very grateful for the help, as I just received a new touch probe that I would like to use. 
I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong section.

Which spindle oil is used? Is the chamber where the motor and spindle connect also the oil reservoir? I too have a chiron fz12w I retrofitted.
