MesaCT 2.1.6 - LinuxCNC fails to start with 7i95t_xyz configuration

Category: Configuration Tools

This worked...

Commented out all mentions of "pwngen". There were three, one for each axis.

#net joint-0-enable => hm2_[MESA](BOARD).0.pwmgen.00.enable

MesaCT 2.1.6 - LinuxCNC fails to start with 7i95t_xyz configuration

Category: Configuration Tools

There are several lines starting with loadrt.. Can't find mentions of num_pwn=0. So I added it to just try it out.

I tried this one..
loadrt [EMCMOT](EMCMOT) servo_period_nsec=[EMCMOT](SERVO_PERIOD) num_joints=[KINS](JOINTS) num_pwm=0

and then this one in the config part...
# hostmot2 driver
loadrt hostmot2
loadrt [HM2](DRIVER) board_ip=[HM2](ADDRESS) config="num_encoders=6 num_stepgens=6 sserial_port_0=00000000"

both time returned with the error "unknown parameter, 'num_pwn=0'"

E-Stop latch question

Category: HAL

I'm putting the final touches on an external push-button control board that has a big Estop button as well as buttons to do a host of other things, details here =>

forum.linuxcnc.org/21-axis/53701-please-...e-this-control-board

I mostly use my mill for "one of" prototyping so it's really common for me to interact mostly with the control board. So I prefer to use the control board buttons for as many commonly used things as possible. At the moment I can do most everything I want from the control board except reset the E-Stop. I would prefer to be able to do that without clicking in the GUI.

MesaCT 2.1.6 - LinuxCNC fails to start with 7i95t_xyz configuration

Category: Configuration Tools

There are no hardware PWM in 7i95T as far as i know, so how did you end up with it in hal file? And also there are mentions of parallel port in the error report, and this is the second time i am seeing this error on MesaCT configurations, it really should not be there.
As far as i can figure out, none are of your making, so for now just edit the hal file and set the num_pwm=0 instead of whatever the number is there, should be near the top of the file and the line starts with "loadrt"

MesaCT 2.1.6 - LinuxCNC fails to start with 7i95t_xyz configuration

Category: Configuration Tools

I built a configuration to just learn from. I used the quick start xyz configuration. The debug section of the report shows a board 7i95 (without the T). So I edited the .ini to include the T, but it causes errors elsewhere. Attached the .ini and report file. I don't really know what else to do except to ask here.

Mesa 7i95T, LinuxCNC 2.9.3, MesaCT 2.1.6

Thanks, and please help a newbie out.

Adjusting maxvel stops my routine

I would try to use custom Mcodes/ subroutines directly and avoid using the python mdi command.

Can you elaborate on how to do that? I'm invoking these from a VCP, buttons bound to Python code.

Nice, thank you.
What are the chances of implementing the Smart Serial protocol used by Mesa, that would simplify things, a lot.

New update on STMBL

Category: Driver Boards

Hey everyone! We've just released our version of STMBL .
It's still a work in progress, so please use it with caution.
I hope this can bring new life to this project where the original authors put a lot of effort.
I created a fork first, but then I realized I couldn't use LFS , so I manually copied it.
As for documentation, we'll publish a static website soon. Any help is welcome!

o-codes and ngc file

Category: Basic Configuration

I'm in the process of remapping M-code for my tailstrock.

Question about M-code :

I haven't found any M-codes already made for the tailstock.
I saw that haas uses M21 and M22.
Can we remap these two M-codes or should we remap only M100-M199?

Question on ngc file.

I would like to make only 1 file for all my remaps. Is it possible to put several o-sub in a single ngc file?

like :
o<tailstock_advance> sub
.
.
.
o<tailstock_advance> endsub

o<tailstock_retract> sub
.
.
.
o<tailstock_retract> endsub

Multiple external step generators like ESP32 (Individual ESP32 for every axis)

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Haven’t you asked this question before ?
Would each board require its own read & write thread ?
By the time you buy 3 ESP32 and the Ethernet modules you can get a Spartan 6 dev board off AliExpress one w5500 Ethernet module and use the riocore firmware and have about 72 i/o pins.
All the drivers for Linuxcnc are already written, there’s a great GUI to config everything.

Get a nvme drive for it
The RPi5 is quite quick enough for running Linuxcnc.

Or just get a proper PC.

Question to operatingspeed glassscales with Beckhoff/EtherCAT under Linux CNC

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thanks andypugh.Do you know if Linux CNC together with the Ether CAT protocol is fast enough to realize simultaneous movements of 3 or 4 axes while still evaluating and correcting the glass scales? If I have understood correctly, the Ether CAT protocol (Beckhoff) has a limited amount of data that can be sent at once due to the constantly circulating frame through all components. The amount of data should therefore increase at higher speeds.
Danke andypugh.

How can we overclock the Raspberry Pi 5, which currently has Debian installed on it? I want it to be faster. Are there any commands that will increase the CPU voltage and frequency? Or what can I do to make it faster? I installed a fan cooler, what else can be done?
