they seem to think it could be an issue with the package installer on the machine itself. I tried to follow prompts to install the .deb on command line but didnt seem to have access to the directory.

I'm definitely open to alternatives that will work. I just want to make sure that I wont run into the same issue when trying to install that one. Is there a any small thing i can download (minesweeper or snake maybe) that i make sure i can actually install things?

It might be possible depending on the exact servo drive model
Some FANUC drive of that vintage are Analog +-10V controlled

Can you find the actual drive model?
 

Hello, i buyed a Seiki Mori MV40B machine(year1989) that has fanuc controller and servo motors(lost prgogram because of battery). i attach pictures from cabinet and motor plate. I'm trying to retrofit with linuxcnc and mesa boards. Anyone that could give advice about this, i need to change de driver? (fanuc says it's servo amplifier) i can controll with mesa board? There is a lot of information about the posibility of controlling axis with mesa board, spindle with some change of the spindle encoder.... but i haven't find something that is suitable for me.I want to keep de servo motors if possible (because of the cost of new one) and make adaptations to make small costing retrofit, but if is not possible, i want to know if there is o solution for retrofiting with smallest cost . 

The approximately +- 15000 encoder velocity numbers in the video
seem like pure noise. (and negative values should not even be possible)

I would first try jumpering the 'B' input as single ended and see if that helps
(also make sure nothing is wired to either 'B' input)

Do you get steady arc voltage readings when the plasma supply is off?

So as it turned out we have lots of IO on the drives. 24 in and 6 out. So really It will be down to figuring out the spindle. RS485 is an option on the drive, but I know virtually nothing about how that works. Anyone got a link to some "for dummies" instructions? and whether it will work alongside ethercat?


 

I’m sure it’s something very simple that I have got wrong. 

last night I realised that I don’t have an arc ok showing when the torch fires. Checked wiring and it’s all correct. 
Cpc pin 12 goes to input 10 on the Mesa, pin 14 goes to common +.

So calling us names here and a bit of cursing and swearing just makes this place more "colorful"

No idea really but maybe you have active G92 offsets.
To clear run this in MDI:

If that does not fix it we would need to see your the .ini file of your machine config.

Do you use some special double-quotes around D1, D2,D3 and D4?
Replace them with the normal ones, that are around 0,1,2,3 in slaves

Hi,

I've tried to re-install my system (Dell Optiplex Athlon, Dual Core 4400+, 4 GB. Parallel Port) via Live CD. This didn't work at all on my system (sadly I didn't take a screenshot of the failure message but it was the step after partitioning the hard drive). I tried the same with a 2.9.3 Live CD and this was immediately successful. Afterwards I could flawlessly update to 2.9.4.
Linux was up and running as expected. I ran stepconf wizard to create a machine config and afterwards replaced it by my backup config files (2.9.3) to the created folders. My machine was running without any issues.

I then started stepconf wizard (2.9.4) to check my setting of my backup config from 2.9.3 and got an error message:

 

Is there anything i need to do to update the 2.9.3 config file to be used with 2.9.4 stepconf wizard?

Never used it, but i did use VNC always, well till some 8 years ago, now i sue nothing of such sort.
There are several versions of it though, so check for the fact that the same version works on Linux and Windows.

I just figured tommylight was having a bad day.

tommylight, I remember those posts I couldn't believe he wasn't banned at that point because of how
he was acting. I think we are tougher on spammers then people were on that guy.
