I just half wrote one here on the forum tonight forum.linuxcnc.org/49-basic-configuratio...-brake-with-linuxcnc
Blink could be improved a lot by using fperiod() so the on time and off time was specified in seconds if anybody wanted an intermediate project to practice on. :)

Yes, I also canceled my X1C order from the beginning of this year. This topic really affected me.
Now I don’t know what to order, and it seems there are no big discounts either.

I had wondered that myself. They sure are following Stratasys's business model.

I wonder if the legal action against Bambu over patent infringements had anything to do with this.

At the risk of repeating myself:
Grotius is like a heat seeking missile, he locks on to something and does not stop! :)
Thank you Grotius.

In this case, the missile orbited earth at least 15 times and probably once around Mars before hitting the Scurve target!

I am in awe with Grotius's tenacity over many years on this!

There does not seem to be a current velocity pin for a specific joint.
I would probably write a small component in C that saves the last position and compares it with this period and enable the brake if they are the same (eg has not moved)  This is the pin you need to monitor
joint.N.motor-pos-fb

Rough code:

static float old_pos = 0;
if (current_pos == old_pos)
  brake_pin = 1;
else
 brake_pin = 0;
old_pos = current_pos;

 So as I cruised around YouTube last night I have seen the comments on various channels. Let's just
say Bambu Lab has seriously hurt their bottom line with their greedy power grab. So many of the
commenters had apparently put in orders before this and are now canceling them over this situation.
All I can say is GOOD. Bambu Lab had chosen the whole F around and find out. Well they did
find out. My guess is they will back burner this push for a while. But I don't think they will abandon
it.

This has however presented a golden opportunity to other printer manufacturing companies to give
customers what they deserve, A good usable tool at a good price that isn't about monopolizing
peoples wallet's.

Is that really such a strange concept?

Ok it was a typo I made, but if you tried to edit the file it should not of existed.

as superuser edit /boot/broadcom/config.txt & change the line from

#dtparam=i2c_arm=on
to
dtparam=i2c_arm=on

Then reboot.

I’m using a raspberry pi 5 8gb with the latest 2.93 image that’s linked on the first page of this thread. I’ve attached a screen shot of what I’m getting when run the commands.

Controling Stepper Brake with Linuxcnc

Category: Basic Configuration

I am using a stepper motor with a brake on the Z-axis to prevent the spindle from dropping due to gravity during a power outage or when the machine is powered off. The brake is designed to activate when power to the stepper motor is cut, but there is a delay of one or two seconds before it engages. This delay allows the spindle to drop significantly before the brake takes effect.Is it possible to control the brake directly using LinuxCNC to eliminate this delay?

A magnet on the outside of the encoder. If the count then changes, you know it's a magnetic one.

They are a copy of the e6b2 omron encoders. There is no way to tell if it's magnetic or optical. It seems there are good copies which are dual boards with encoder wheels inside but there's no way of telling.
