RPi 5 with 6.12 PREEMPT_RT = Using POSIX non-realtime

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Hello all. I'm trying out LinuxCNC 2.9.3 on the 6.12 kernel running on a Raspberry Pi 5. Installation goes fine, but LinuxCNC refuses to acknowledge I'm running a realtime kernel. On startup, it spits out the message: "Note: Using POSIX non-realtime"

However, `uname-a` shows:
Linux plasma 6.12.8-v8-16k+ #1 SMP PREEMPT_RT Tue Jan  7 22:00:59 CET 2025 aarch64 GNU/Linux

My installations script is here:
gist.github.com/alangibson/12700b72f737889536565896143eefe0

Can anyone make out my mistake? Or is there a known issue? I've searched but found nothing applicable.

You can edit the ini file directly to set the accelleration.
Read the docs on ini file configuration
But I think you will find more than 3000-5000 will shake your machine apart,

All the menu items have push buttons as well.

Let me look into adding user text to a bit type hal label.

Hi,

Post geschrieben habe.

Gruß

Exercise: Turn on output led on EL2809 when machine is turned on

Category: EtherCAT

The invert pin works the opposite way. Set it to 1 and the output goes off.

Maybe this document can shed some light on the 3 mA

pncconf Clearpath SDSK settings

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I have my new 7i96s and my machine is - almost - ready to be powered up. As I run pncconf, I am looking for a little handholding to make sure I get the entries right. I have four Teknic Clearpath SDSK CPM-SDSK-3411S-ELS, one on each axis, with a paired Y gantry, found here: teknic.com/model-info/CPM-SDSK-3411S-ELS/ . All are powered by an IPC-5 75v power supply. I have a second ps in case one isn't enough, but I think it is.

The maximum acceleration I calculated as 49800 mm/sec^2 is WORLDS away from the default 750, and pncconf doesn't allow more than 10000. That's just the tip of the iceberg! I can't be the first person to use Clearpath SDSK servos on a LinuxCNC machine; where can I find examples of settings someone else has already proven out?

Additionally, I think I have the wiring correct for HLFB, aka drive alarm, but I am still in pncconf and I don't even know how to assign the pins there. The only options that seemed like they would make any sense were "digital in 0", and so on. Does that sound right? If not, what should I use?

looks like you have the order of the read_all and write_all wrong.(lcec should be first and last) but not sure if that's what has broken it.

hello
base period = 100 000
servo period = 1 000 000

steplen = 1
step space = 0
scale is 10

my one rotation is 10mm

so that scale*1 rotation is 100 pulse
i need to make >500 pulses for one rotation

if i make 100 scale
the speed is going down and linuxcnc give me following 0 error(axis x following error)

QTDesigner PATH issue

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

My guess is from these lines in pstat.py:
            # share directory moves when using RIP vrs installed
            home = os.environ.get('LINUXCNC_HOME', '/usr')
            if home is not None:
                self.SHAREDIR = os.path.join(home,"share", "qtvcp")

most every file uses SHAREDIR as a base.

If you open a terminal and type:
printenv LINUXCNC_HOME
does it return anything?

Somehow Qtvcp thinks that linuxcnc is installed rather then RIP.

StepperOnline A6 Servo

Category: EtherCAT

 Hello, I'm currently retrofitting a cnc router that I build a couple years ago and switching to EtherCAT AC servos.

The specific model is StepperOnline A6 400watt.At the moment, I'm trying to get one drive up and working and not having luck getting a motor turning.I installed a fresh copy of LinuxCNC 2.9.3 per the sticky by RodW and that side of it is working fine.
I'm also able to see the slave, pdos, etc by using the ethercat command in the terminal.My problem is I can't get the drive to go into operation mode and hold/turn the motor.It goes through init mode but stays on preop mode.

I've attached the relevant files (hopefully) here if someone can help?Thanks!
