2.9.3 INI_VARS issue

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Appologies, I just realized that I was testing in current master so I changed to 2.9.3 and there does seem to be something strange going on.

1. If I test with [RS274NGC]INI_VARS = 1 then I can indeed reproduce these issues
2. If I test without [RS274NGC]INI_VARS = 1 (default value is 1) then I can read and write(!) #<_ini[TOOLSETTER]z_tool> (I don't get the error when trying to write)

[edit]
Note this is actually unrelated to the version but to the upper/lower case variable name in the ini file, see below

I repeated these issues with both the axis.ini setup for sim, and MY_MILL.ini. interesting. 2.9.3 LinuxCNC distribution, no mods. total install of ISO

I can't reproduce these issues.

Try if you can retrieve the MAX_LIMIT for the x-axis:
(DEBUG, #<_ini[AXIS_X]MAX_LIMIT>)
[code]
[/code]

Jog from external pushbutton only works after a move say G0 X1

Category: HAL

I have an annoying bug possibly in my HAL or ini.

I have external buttons for jogging. When I first start axis if I press a jog button, it won't jog. However if I go to the MDI tab and then say do a G0 X1, or F10 (probably any G-code?) and then go back to Manual Control tab, then the jog buttons work.

Note the jog buttons in the axis GUI do work without having to do the MDI thing described.
Also when I look using HAL Show (initially when it won't jog), I can see my jog button activating, and I can see it activating halui.axis.x.increment-plus.

I'm not sure what changes or gets updated when I issue a G-Code in the MDI tab, but whatever it is it's stopping my jog buttons from working initially when I start axis. Simply going to the MDI tab and back does not work, so it's something to do with actually executing a command in MDI.

E-Stop is reset, machine power is on and I have NO_FORCE_HOMING = 1, so not the super obvious stuff.

Another hint, if I home the axis before I try the jog button, that also works, so it's as if the NO_FORCE_HOMING = 1 is being ignored until I issue a command.

Any ideas?

Nothing should reset until you flip the index enable pin, then when you rotate, it will reset the revs(i think) pin when it hits z index pin

You can add to the ini file to change the startup nc codes.

linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/ini...sub:ini:sec:rs274ngc

The default codes for each modal group is programmed into LinuxCNC.

Initial G codes

Whenever I start Axis, I see a bunch of G-Codes, just below where is shows Active G-Codes.

Where are these defined (I'm guessing in a file somewhere?), and can I change them?
Google search led to OPEN_FILE in  .ini file however as shown below just closed quotes there so looks like no file specified.

I'm a little confused.

It's likely that you base thread period is limiting the maximum step rate
What is you base thread period?

Not sure if the GPIO connected stepgen can do reset mode like a
PC parallel port, but that that would help.

Pendant XHC HB04 receiver issue

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

I have been using this pendant XHC HB04 wireless for some years and was satisfied with it.
Unfortunately I managed to damage the USB receiver of it last week when I moved the desktop PC.
The connections from the USB plug to the PCB inside broke.
As a first attempt I tried to replace the USB part of it with a new USB plug plus cable and soldered the wires to the small PCB of the receiver.
But the first tests were not successfull. My existing LinuxCNC setup was not finding the XHC HB04 sofar.
I am still testing and trying to fix it.

Does anyone know whether there exists an easy to find replacement for the USB receiver on the market? If so, which model/brand? Or is it a specific proprietary component. If so , is there a place to purchase only the USB receiver?

Thanks a lot,

Frans

That´s the best instruction i´ve seen so far!
following your steps:
- Configuring everything in twincat and make it OP
- Switching to lcnc running "ethercat pdos" and map everything
- exporting SDOs
-> everything works - thank you so much, i´ll share my config when it´s finished!

Thank you Cakeslob, with your encoder scaling, you have it set to ENCODER_SCALE for position to be rpm. I have mine set to the ppr of the encoder which is 2400. When I rotate it by hand and it gets to 2400 counts after one rev encoder position is set to 1 in halshow. So it seems to be scaled right. PhaseZ is triggering in halshow also. I have a separate Z pulse coming from the emco encoder wheel on the spindle which triggers around 1400 counts(I don't think this matters?)but when z triggers nothing resets, is this normal? tried deleting the ppr scale number and putting ENCODER_SCALE but it won't start with it, dosnt recognise it. Am I missing something on the ini file for encoder position to be rpm ?
