Happy New year everyone.

I am back in the workshop and have made some progress.
I did a new clean install with the current version and on a much more powerful computer as my original machine was just not happy being a super slow single board computer from 10 years ago. The only other computer I have around with a PCI slot is a massive dual Xeron workstation which is a great heater in the winter :)

I was chatting with some other folks about this and they suggested that using the qtdragon interface would perhaps be a good idea so I made a config with that and it is close to working but there are some errors around calling the python files. I  used the text from the manual and added the "examples" folder step so they should point correctly but I think there is something wrong, either with what I wrote or how the paths are written in the example. (I don't understand the format with the text over two lines with a ":/" but I am no linux expert.

Any ideas?

thanks

Luke

Not a problem, netmask is 24 for the 255.255.255.0 subnet, it is the same thing, just written differently.
8 is 255.0.0.0
16 is 255.255.0.0
24 is 255.255.255.0
Subnets are used to separate internal networks despite being on the same physical network.

Unexpected cookie at 0100..0110:

No 7C80 board found

getting this response when running the below command.

[code]sudo mesaflash --device 7c80 --addr /dev/spidev0.0 --spi --readhmid

Do i need to configure this blind (using something like a 7i96), then change the line in the hal file to load the new driver?

Your help is much appreciated.

Mesa is definitely talking now (I can see DRO input on inputs 0,1 changing)

I just found a video by rodw that explains some of the IP stuff, I think I might now have a rudimentary understanding:
  • direct 1:1 connection from PC's Ethernet port (10.10.10.100)  to Mesa port 10.10.10.10)
  • I though that I needed to put the MESA boards address into the wired network, but you actually have to have a different address on the PC side with the same 10.10.10.x

Next up the fun stuff.

You can set this up with the network manager as you already have
but the address in the network manager should be 10.10.10.100
not 10.10.10.10,

also the netmask should be 255.255.255.0 not 255.0.0.0

okay, finally LinuxCNC starts.
However when I enter 255.255.255.0 for the netmask it changes it to 24 when i go back in, not sure if that's a problem?

Storing files would be whatever size SD Card you get for the Pi, it has nothing to do with the 2GB/4GB/8GB variants (those are designating the amount of RAM on the device)
