Mesa, Linuxcnc with step direction servo's for axis and analog servo spindle.

Category: Basic Configuration

that sounds about right doesn't it. Im guessing the 7i64 is connected to the 7i77

mesaflash --device 7i92 --addr [card_ip_address] --readhmid

will print the pinout of the currently loaded 7I92 firmware

Great!
just one last silly question: how can i find out to what pins the encoder connects?

i can't find anything about the physical pin numbers in the .ini or .HAL file?
i connected the stepper drivers to wahtever the BOB said and that worked but i feel that this is just luck...
where can i find this?

It looks like 7I76E+7I77 firmware, but would need to see the pinout section to be sure

A CNC4PC C10 (that the OP used) is probably a good choice as its an all 5V BOB.

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Now it's working and stable!
Thank you for your work, it's awesome that we can use this cheap controller, we had a lot of problems with Mach3.

Hi,

Made a even bigger example how linuxcnc primairely works with rtapi and hal.

Why do we made this example?
Primairely to get more insight's how rtapi loads rt modules, how hal is used and how to setup hal environment.
How to connect hal pin's to each other, and how they are updated.

Specs:

- loading multiple linuxcnc instances. (function loader instances)
- Choose the cpu's to clamp on.
- Set prioriy
- Create multiple shared memory regions.
- Update hal pins over different shared memory regions.
- Create and update hal connection's like "net", but then also connect structure types.

example

Then i looked into the hal ethercat component code, and indeed, above code could implement
a edited version of the hal ethercat code.

You need to provide the cards IP address:

mesaflash --device 7i76e --addr 10.10.10.10 --readhmid
or
mesaflash --device 7i76e --addr 192.168.1.121 --readhmid

I put in
mesaflash --device 7i76e --readhmid

it said 'no 7i76e board found
I just got called out on a service call, so have to go, unfortunately.

Unfortunately it would be pretty awkward with those breakouts as the inputs
are slow 12V signals. Even with level shifting I don't know if they could deal
with the ~8KHz signals from the THCAD using the highest divider ratio (128)

The breakout board inputs are activated by grounding so you could try adding
a NPN transistor/small MOSFET to do the level translation from the THCADs ~5V signals
to the 12V required but no guarantees...

A better solution might be to drive the appropriate 7I92 line directly (with maybe a 100 ohm
series resistor for safety)
