Quick question: What is the purpose of W1 and W3 for the Mesa 7i87?   Manual describe W2 but not a word about W1 and W3.

Here is a version that use a sequence to change the diameter increment.
hold left button double click right button  increment + .5
hold right button double click left button  increment - .5

See if you like that. If not, yes we could just use the rotation increment for the diameter increment too.

This file must be named 'camview_widget.py' and replace the original file.

The more accurate the tolerance -> the lower the speed.

For roughing operation (adaptive) such accuracy is not required. Try setting P0.05, this will smooth the trajectory and allow it to be executed at high speed.
If the acceleration of your machine is not high, then for roughing operation you can choose P even more.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have applied your advice and made some adjustments. Previously, it was G64 P0.002 Q0.002. Now, I’ve changed it to G64 P0.01 and removed the Q0.002 parameter. The machine runs much more smoothly, although there are still some slight jerks when transitioning into curves during G0 moves. However, it’s a significant improvement.

Do you happen to know what the Q parameter is used for?

I am at the very beginning of my LinuxCNC experience, and I don't know what I don't know. The only thing I know for sure is it isn't well documented.

Just a couple more files.These are extracted from the Maho Technical manual that you can download from one of my previous links to my Google Drive.
If you just want to remove the quill it's easy to flip the vertical head on it's side as shown. It eliminates the possibility of dropping the whole thing out accidentally.
I've edited the sketch to show a trap. Mine doesn't have the bolt setup for retaining the hand wheel assembly like Marks.I don't have the "U" shaped cover shown in Marks video. Mine has 3 separate plates instead. Under the left plate there is a a tapered dowel scotch key to retain the assembly. As you can see the instructions neither show or explains this. I've added the instruction in red. The machine has these tapered dowels in quite a few other places also.
It has the same travel limiting screw, but they only mention loosening it. Better to remove it completely since you don't know how loose to clear the quill. 5 mm maybe!
The quill clamp on mine is quite different. It can be clamped in any quill position, unlike Marks which is one tooth step on the quill rack. I think both work nicely.
The heating instruction is to remove the tool clamping mechanism.is here, but it might be wise to leave the limit screw in place before you do it. I pulled the whole lot out and heated it on the bench in the vise as previously noted.

if you can write a little bit in c - just make a one-liner custom component... something like


select THRESH values somewhere in between values you get in corresponding switch positions.
the resistor thing should work fine. i did that for 24-pos switch, though with stm32 adc (12bit?)..

Burn to USB, boot from USB and test latency, should be much better, but still you should disable in BIOS;

thank you for the link to your document. I have a 2 core computer which I was rather hoping I could interface through a parallel port, and so I am not sure how much applies to me. From the Optional Steps section I find 'Disable energy efficient ethernet' and 'disable active state power management', I don't think the 'Isolate 2 Cores' is applicable. I was rather looking for things I should do in the BIOS, but the only reference is the Review Latency section which says the BIOS setting are important in reducing latency.

My lack of knowledge is almost certainly causing me to read the document incorrectly and I apologise for that. I will go into the BIOS and try to disable the power management and I will not have the computer on-line, but otherwise still not sure how to proceed.

I do not know if it is worth doing this fee at all. There is only one two-year-old firmware for LinuxCNC on it. Will there be any positive result for switching from Mach3 to Linux CNC with this board?

At the beginning I tested it briefly, but not in detail. seemed to work. In the end nothing worked.

At the moment when you couldn't flash it, did you try working with Mach3? If the controller itself is not working, it would hardly give signals to the output.
