QTDragon_HD blank dropdowns

Category: Qtvcp

I'm working on a new installation of QTDragon_HD and for some reason the formatting on some of the dropdown menus are all out of whack. When I try to select a different option for the jog increment, the dropdown menu takes up the entire vertical height of the screen. Same for selecting the file types on the "Files" tab.

Not all dropdowns are affected; as you can see in IMG_0333.jpeg the REF X dropdown menu seems to be functioning properly.

The dropdown menu items appear to actually be there. I can select different increments by blindly jabbing at different parts of the open dropdown menu, but I can't see any text and clearly the formatting is wrong.

Has anyone else run into this? If so how did you fix it?

Optimum Optimill MH50V CNC conversion

Thanks to some excellent advice from other members on this forum I've now ordered a Omron E6C2-CWZ1X 2000PPR incremental encoder and some HTD 3M pulleys for it. Hopefully it will be a smooth install because not having an encoder hooked really has it's drawbacks.

While reading through the manual of my VFD I noticed it had an unused digital output and thanks to a custom firmware from PCW for my 7i96S board it looks like should be able to read the spindle load from my VFD which would be a really nice bonus.

Now that the machine is more or less mechanically complete I've ran the calibration for the Delta B3 servos. The X and Y axis went very smoothly while the Z axis took some fiddling with the speeds and parameters in the software since I'm not using any counterweight or gas springs at the moment to compensate for the weight of the head.

The calibration process essentially eliminated any overshoot during quick moves which was nice to see. That in turn helped me narrow down the backlash compensation values for the Z-axis where I'm still using the screw that came with the machine.

Here is a video of the calibration process running on the X-axis.

Next up I focused on the Slavetec Probe I bought a while back. It had to be aligned with the spindle which took 2-3 hours of fiddling with the adjustment screws.

After getting close with the hundreds of mm indicator I switched to a 1µm indicator and in the end I got a result that I'm very satisfied with.

Given how long time the alignment took I'm probably never going to remove the probe from that tool holder ever again so it now has a permanent spot in my cart with tool holders.

After that I was about to start numbering all my tool holders, measure the tool lengths and enter them into the tool table in Probe Basic. However I quickly realized that typing on the touchscreen was a bit suboptimal so I did a little side project and extended my control panel with a keyboard tray.

The parameters for the probing interface in Probe Basic seemed a bit daunting at the beginning but I think I'm getting the hang of them now.

pnp sensors, pull down resistors, and NC limit switches with mesa 7i96s

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Not sure what you mean by "mixed and matched"

Outputs 4 and 5 are non-polarized (A and B are interchangeable)

Outputs 0..3 are polarized (you need to pay attention to the + and -
and wire external circuits accordingly)

if i understand you correctly, and i use the term understand loosley, the non-polarized #4 &5, does not matter polarity, and can go +/- -/+ and you can switch between the two. for the low current outputs, once i designate one output as positive or negetive they all have to all be that way or can the polarities be mixed and matched as with the "high current" relay outputs? i wish the manual went into a little more detail on the inputs and outputs. its kind of vague in some areas.

LinuxCNC on Raspberry Pi 5

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

After going through this thread, it seems that the current RPI5 image on the download page should be sufficient to get a usable RPI5 OS install.

I have been working to install the image on a new RPI5 with a Pimoroni NVME installed. I've tried installing on both the SSD and the SD Card. In both instances I end up with no network connection (neither Wi-Fi nor Ethernet) and no network configuration utility under settings.

What additional steps I need to take?

Thanks,

Randale

Looks like you did not setup any spindle control in pncconf.
You need to setup both the spindle PWM and OUT4 and OUT5.

Something like:

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi Tim,

The Remora configuration allows total flexibility. So yes you can swap outputs etc. And I would only load the step generators that you need for your application.

 Hi Scott,
I have removed the 4 unused step generators from the config.txt file (X & Z remaining) and rerun the upload python script.  I have adjusted the .hal and .ini files to reflect this change.
Unfortunately there is now an issue where, although the X cross-slide and Z carriage move, the distance moved is ~1/20th of what it should be (and what it was before changing from XYZABC to XZ).
I have checked and rechecked the .txt, .hal and .ini files, wondering how perhaps the syntax for the [JOINT_?] and scale can have become corrupted, but found no clues to a cause.

Have you run Remora with less than the full complement of step generators without issue?
Does the ~1/20 factor suggest anything within the code around the step generators?

I have gone back to the original XYZABC config .txt and edited only the Y and Z joint numbers (now 'Y - Joint 2 step generator' & 'Z - Joint 1 step generator'; XYZABC Joints retained).  Uploading this with the python script makes the EC300 work as expected with measured axis distance equalling requested distance (with .hal & .ini unchanged from above).

Could there be a consequence of the total number of step generators running?

Fresh install freezes when running glxgears

Category: Computers and Hardware

okay so when taking out the graphics card running glxgears works perfectly fine. with the graphics card inserted it still doesn't work at all.

I also tried to use the
vblank_mode=0
option but that also didn't help. So is the only possibility to get this to work to just not use a graphics card? i thought when using one the latency of the pc will drop because the motherboard is not that busy or is that wrong?
