Diving deeper into linuxcnc

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I had no knowledge about CNCs, but over the last year I have learnt how to use Linuxcnc with a mesa board for my DIY lathe. Would like to dive deeper into knowing about HAL, Macros, O-codes, and maybe those custom Virtual panels that I see all over the internet. Now the thing is, what do i need to have prior knowledge about before diving deeper into this stuff? Python. Thanks in advance.

Already seen it, he missed the point by quite a margin, hence i did not bother to post it here.
The lack of options is the issue, and that is why they can pull such s#it off easily, but something does not add up for me:
-why are payment processors forcing this when it lowers their profits
-why are credit card issuers submitting to payment processors when this lowers their profits
-why are companies complying with all above as again it lowers their profits and alienates customers
As a result crypto is flying high and will continue to do so, especially when someone figures out how to skip all above by using this, and this opens another black market on the net for po...kemon pictures and stuff...
My conclusion :
CONGRATULATIONS humans, you have become the most valuable asset on the internet!!!
If Alphabet, Meta, Tencent, et al can pay astronomical amounts of money to credit card issuers and payment processor for the loss of profits, and they accept it silently and without the smallest backfire, we as internet users have become quite pricey.
-
BTW, do not fall for scams like "VPN is secure" =it is not and they sell all your data and use your PC for their stuff just check latest ticketmaster fails, "we are building new internet that has nothing to do with this one" = they can not, short of plowing half the world and laying new cables/optics.
For both of those there was and is a solution for over 10 years, use TOR, just do read a bit before jumping in, OK?

No, the 6i25 was operated with only one 7i74; the second slot remained empty. The new 7i85 will not arrive until Wednesday.

Odd, do the 7I85 encoders work?

Maybe there's some meta-problem of some kind.

The sample code works (standalone) for me,
That is just by manipulating/watching the pins in halshow:

More like:

net joint-0-pos-fb <= hm2_[MESA](BOARD).0.encoder.00.position
net joint-0-pos-fb => joint.0.motor-pos-fb
net joint-0-pos-fb => pid.x.feedback

# PID Output

Start a new topic on the "show your stuff" section of the forum, in the tittle put retrofit of whatever your machine is named, attach plenty of pictures of the existing machine and control and wiring with details on motors and drives, add whatever info you think might help, wait for replies.
There are plenty of us here who do a lot of retrofits and new builds, some do magnificent machines with details worth the "hall of fame", so plenty of help on tap, just ask.

Im considering upgrading the controller on our thermwood C67 5 axis machine. its form 2008 with the current controller being from 2011. Issue is that if it's done via thermwood its a full rebuild of the motors/drivers and controller box/ power supply with install is like 90-95k. We believe that with a little work and our current understanding we can do the upgrade ourselves of just the controller leaving our current motors still on the machine. Do you have any recommendations to use either linux or anything else? Id love to chat with you further about using linux and doing it correctly if you are willing to talk via email/ phone. thanks!

Hi, did you guys end up collaborating? I have. a C67 and am looking to upgrade the controller from the 2011 version it currently is at. At this point thermwood will only offer me a full conversion which is 90k and completely too much money. I have been looking at using Masso or centroid, but im not sure which is worth it if they even are and that's what brought me to Linux. Personally im not extremely knowledgeable on the software side, but hardware im good at and feel relatively confident I can actually continue to use the Siemens drivers motors and board that are currently on the machine. Id love to chat with either of you guys about it if you have a chance.

Where you at in Florida? How can I contact you?

JCLPCB delivered my self made PCB board. Testing ongoing. I had to order 5 boards. If anyone is interested in one, I have a few spares. Located in the Florida USA.
