Wow a stmbl v5, didn't know that was happening. Think I've been waiting 5 years or better to see that.

I would like to, but it tells me that they are to big. Even at like 200 kB. The error message says they can be up to 1.6 MB

OK yeah, that's the part that was missing from the first video. Youtube embeds don't work well on my end so I missed it in the 2nd

I see some of the other controls items have dynamic properties so it might be mentioned elsewhere in the docs but I didn't see any mention of it while just progressing through.

Edit: I see it in "Step by Step" gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/hal.html#step-by-step

Building and configuring a stmbl v5

Category: Driver Boards

Hi,

in the following topic I want to document the process of building and configuring a stmbl v5 servo drive. Since I found it a bit hard to get started and reading through the documentation, I will try to explain my process step by step so others can follow.

But first I wand to thank freak for designing the v5 and bringing the project back to life. Also thanks to Rene and all other contributors.

I got two Mitsubishi RV-4FLM robots without a controller, so I need 12 drives. I decided to build them my self, because I wanted to get a bit back into electronics and also save some money. You can also buy drives form freak (contact is on the github page). The price he asks is very reasonable and I wouldn't recommend building the drives yourself if you don't have a fair amount of experience with electronics. So if you only need a few drives, please support freak. Before I get questions about it, I also want to clarify, that I will not sell drives as long as they are available from the project maintainers.

So lets get started:
I ordered 15 PCBs with almost all SMD components assembled from JLCPCB. I did solder some inductors by hand, because I couldn't easily find a exact match in the jcpcb parts catalog. While doable, I would recommend against it, the layout is just not made for hand soldering. I'm still waiting for some connectors to arrive, so I only have pictures of half completed boards.

That section only shows up after you select the button then press the green plus symbol and add a dynamic property.

Calculating step length/space timings for Delta B3 servo drives

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

At 4000 steps/mm *133.33 mm/s (8000 mm/m) the step rate is ~533 KHz.
so your 700 ns step length and 700 ns step space are fine as these limit
the maximum step rate to ~714 Khz   = 1/(steplength+stepspace)

The drives maximum step rate in step/dir mode is 4M steps per second,
which means ~125 ns minimum step space and step length so you have plenty
of margin. The setup and hold times are relatively unimportant as long as they are
long enough (they do not affect performance)

Note that all this assumes differential (line driver) wiring not open collector.

I installed the new deb from releases but it doesn't seem to be adding anything new. I don't have qabstractproperties on the pushbutton whether I set it inside the stacked widget or not. Do I have to do anything special when upgrading flexgui?

I'm not sure what qabstractproperties is, what are you trying to do with that?

If you download the deb from the latest release and install it with gdebi or your favorite way you have the latest.

I'll add a screenshot to the docs.

Sorry I mean, Dynamic Properties. I couldn't remember the name because it does not appear. This is from your video

This is what I actually have.

I see what you're doing there, I got it from the first video.....I just can't do it because it doesn't exist. So I'm asking where dynamic properties for the QPushButton came from

I installed the 1.1 deb from git using apt yesterday

Ok, zelo, do a quick test to see if the speed doubles if you reduce the scale by half

Velocity doubles until 79, when set to 80 it will give error.

Actually up to 79.7 works.

probe basic - toolpath/file preview loading error

Category: QtPyVCP

i just did an install yesterday on one of my machines, my method of choice is how i listed it in the docs here:

kcjengr.github.io/probe_basic/development_quick_start_apt.html

thing of note, i had to go into the synaptic package manager after install and manually change to the preempt rt kernel as shown below, just search for linux-image in synaptic to bring up the different kernels. i also like to remove any unused or older kernels on my machine pc's once i have fully tested updated kernels.

yep, already had that thought with the 4-jaw chuck route. the pneumatic idea will require different jaws for different material size but those could be made as well. that's the easy part. figuring out how to put it all together and not break the bank in the process is the hard part :) any kind of hollow body design for something fancy gets expensive quick the bigger you get.

Calculating step length/space timings for Delta B3 servo drives

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I'm trying to get my head around the calculation of the shortest suitable step length/space timings for the Delta B3 servo drives I'm using.

The manual for the servo drives lists the following specification:

I have the drives set to 10 000 steps per revolution and I'm using 5mm pitch ball screws with a 2:1 belt reduction.

My goal is to have a rapid speed of 8 000 mm/minute on the X/Y axis. In order to reach that speed with the current number of steps per revolution I have to set the step timing to the following values:

DIRSETUP   = 800
DIRHOLD    = 800
STEPLEN    = 700
STEPSPACE  = 700

My question is how do I calculate how much safety margin these values leave me given the specifications of the Delta B3 servo drives?

I assume the Mesa 7i96s card I'm using will not be the limiting factor.
