That is correct, I had an old 2 port HP one in the late 90's, couldn't print to the "win printers' of the time. Laser jets had no issues with.

Probe panel for Axis GUI

i am trying to set this up but i have a pyvcp panel for my spindle that takes up all of the pyvcp panel on the right side of the screen in axis, and when i follow the tutorial the prob part appears undrneath th existing panel and cant be seen, and im also running into other problems nut want to get this part figured out first, how do i get the probe panel to display in a seperate tab like the post above has ?, do i ned to create embeded tabs for my spindl and the probe ? i can post my config files if needed, as ive had a lot of troubl getting my router setup with my vfd control via modbus and using a tool height setter m6 remap, any help would b greatly appreciated

Yes it is, 8 data pins, 4 control pins and 5 status pins, if i am not mistaken.

I'm not familiar with that software but yes set your pins in the p1 connector like it was the breakout board connecting to a parallel port.

E.g. step and direction for axis x on the bob is usually pins 2,3 on the parallel port (and the p1)

Hope that helps

Physically isolate the RPi from your setup (ie take it out of the system) and try to get wifi working. Take all the other "bits" out of the equation, then work from there.

That's an old school print server, not an ethernet to parallel adapter.

You are welcomed, always.
Just to be clear, i have nothing to do with Mesa, i did my first retrofit with their boards a long time ago, and many more since then as i absolutely must have reliability, and those do. Also, any price you see for Mesa stuff, i have to pay at least twice that to get it here, and i pay it gladly.

For the price of the adapter you linked with big chances it will not work, you can also get a used PC with parallel port that works perfectly well with LinuxCNC, the port works, PC might still have issues with latency, but the big Dell Optiplex 980 have worked fine for me.
But if you can stretch a bit, get the 7i96S, makes wiring much easier.

Got it, atan2 returns an angle from -pi to pi, but the clothoid stuff works with angles between 0 and 2pi.

Thanks for the help. I was looking at the 7i92t. I seen that parallel adapter and just thought I would ask.

No it is not possible to connect to a BOB as it has the Centronics 36 pin port, not the DB25 one, and making an adapter (probably no way to find it) would probably require some junk yard scavenging to find a female Centronics port.
All that is probably in vein as it might not work with LinuxCNC at all.
And now the hard answer:
Go buy a Mesa 7i92T, it is the same price, has two ports with 34 IO all can be inputs or outputs, and can do much, much faster step rates and read fast encoders.

According to halshow, nothing is connected to spindle-on (although, as you mention spindle-on is connected to parport). I tried something like:

net spindle.start vc-p4s.spindle.start => spindle-on

But it causes linuxcnc to abort on launch because it can't find spindle-on and I don't know any other way to refer to spindle-on.

For what it is worth, even the current setup seems to cause a command to start the spindle to be written to shared memory, and then read back, but nothing happens.

Qtdragon for lathe?? was created by jimmyrig

Qtdragon for lathe??

Category: Qtvcp

Has anyone gotten this working cleanly?

Built qtdragon with pnfconf and set mode as lathe.

Still seeing Y axis on the screen

Need to change the default view to look at xz only

Keyboard shortcuts work when nothing is homed. as in Left and right move z (towards spindle)  up and down move x (The cross slide). However once homed the keyboard shortcuts go to typical mill fashion where x is left and right...... and z is page up and down.

I wasn't seeing a lathe specific config, hoping I missed something???

I don't mind being the test monkey if anyone could fix those....I'm also going to get my hands dirty learning at to make some changes for tube cutting in qtplasmac and could hop over to building a lathe when done with that.

Seems like the lib/python/qtvcp/designer/readme.txt has the basics for getting started. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks!

So... as you mentioned in the first post, signal 'spindle-on' is connected to your parport pin, which is what turns the spindle on.

I don't know what's connected to that signal - i.e. what input drives that signal.  Perhaps something in your GUI?  What GUI are you using?

Can you look in halshow and see what pin is connected to signal 'spindle-on'?

Reason I'm asking is because I think you need an or2 component so that either the vista output or the GUI output can start/stop the spindle.  And we need to know what pin is currently driving the signal so we can set up the appropriate or2 logic.
