I just tested Axis sim mm, it does not exceed limits, so how are you able to exceed them?

Soft Limit Setup

There are no limit switches, I'm in Sim mode presently.  So over travel should not be possible.

So isn't the Min_Limit and Max_Limit the travel limits, and not fault limits?

Did you home the machine?
There is usually a button to 'override limits' to back away off the limit switches.

Limit switches should never be hit in normal function and will only occur because of a fault (in a properly configured setup).

I don't believe a function to not fault when limits triggered exists (nor should it)

There is the maximum physical travel of the machine (usually with limit switches close to either end of this).
Then there are the 'soft limits'/ axis travel defined in your ini file.

E.g. real max physicial travel 320mm.
Limit switches 5mm from either end = 310mm between limit switches
Axis travel 300mm
Then you need to tell LinuxCNC where the axis is (in relation to the actual allowable physical travel / limits)
Usually done with a home switch inside limits, or using on limit switch as home+limit

If axis not homed correctly, then you can end up hitting limits

I'm working with a sim at present prepping for the real machine.  If I jog into a limit the sim/machine faults and I cannot reverse direction to get out of the limit.

Is there a way to setup soft limits so the machine stops motion at the limit, doesn't fault, and can still reverse motion without needing to disable limits or re-home?

Problems with Lichuan Ethercat servo drive

Category: EtherCAT

Let's start with the easy answer: the `idx="XXX"` value needs to match your slave ID, as shown in `ethercat slaves`.

Now for the fun answer: dcConf. This enabled "distributed clock" mode, without which most (but not all) servo drives won't work. *Generally* you need to use settings that match whatever the servo vendor says to use in their documentation. The problem is that Lichuan docs are kind of sparse right now. However, the values listed (assignActivate=300, sync0Cycle="*1", sync0Shift=0) are probably the most common.

your best bet is a mesa ethernet card or get an RPi4

Im sure your configuration issue isnt anything that difficult. Im sure the company, or other users could help you to figure it out. It is also beneficial long term to try and learn the HAL

Most setups require you to do something,, but a mesa ethernet board you can use the config program, or a flexihal ethernet thing comes without changing the config but you need to load new firmware probably
or contact byte2byte to ask them for assistance

But also for anyone else interested, this fellow in the Other Languages section, has made some kind of RPi GPIO config tool

Today I had some time to do some test cuts. Sooo worth the effort . Only a few photos today.
I will be taking some video tomorrow. No it's not linuxCNC yet. and I have one more system to test
before I do. I am curious how well Marlin works for simple robots running G-Code. For now
enjoy the pics.

Les over at sheetcam is making a lathe add on, currently free as it is in development. (Sheetcam cost 140 bucks)

Fusion 360s lathe cam isn't terrible difficult but not easy either

Maybe freecad has a lathe. Not sure on this one
