The EncY is not isolated by will function as a re-driver
to lower loads from termination. We have considered an
isolated version but have not made it yet.

You have to monitor the encoder error bit youself
and it requires using 2.9 or later as there were errors
in handling errors in multiple channels before that.

A similar problem was reported here. Maybe Andys suggestion does help you?

Very weird, and hard to explain, since digital input 0 gets its
value by reading the analog value internally.

I guess another possibility is an issue with the 5I24 or 5I24 firmware

blazini36,

Thanks for pointing out the Encoder Y! Of course Mesa makes a solution for everything!

PCW, will the encoder y board offer isolation? Not sharing the grounds? Could I read in differential from the encoder and split(Y) to drive single ended without lowering the voltage swing? Sorry, I could not find the product doc on your site. Do you have a link?

I need to further scope the encoder as the A and B channels look flaky on halscope. I have an inconsistent pulse width both in mode1 and 0.
I also enabled  quad-error-enable true but it didn't trigger. I assume in 2.8 version, axis gui would display a warning? Or does the error checking need further hal connection?

I'm not familiar with the Parallel Pi Hat but looking at the config files in this post it seems to me that you may need to load a gpio component to get it working. I'm not sure that the StepConf Wizard does that for you.

Yes, the motor is energized.  It's holding position.  I've tried using the files as generated by the StepConfig.  During the config a window opens that allows you to test jog the motor.  Nothing happens.  No errors either.

Download and unzip:

www.mesanet.com/software/parallel/sserial.tgz

Then change to the utils/linuxcnc directory and read the README file

I followed the instructions on creating a setup using the LinuxCNC Stepconf Wizard then replacing the hal file with the one downloaded from Byte2bot.

This sounds a bit odd to me as the Stepconf Wizard would be used to CREATE a .hal file for your setup. It does not seem to make much sense to create it and then replace it.
So I presume you are maybe in the process of setting things up using the StepConf Wizard and have configured the pins (steps/dir) for the stepper drives and are unable to jog the motors?
Are the motors energized (ie are they locked in position if you try to turn the shaft by hand)?

I have been using G-code sender with a FluidNC board successfully.  Decided to give LinuxCNC a try.  Current setup is Raspberry PI5 to a Byte2bot parallel port RaspberryPI Hat to a generic 5-axis breakout board.  Connected a DM556T digital stepper drive from Steppersonline to Nema23 motor.  I followed the instructions on creating a setup using the LinuxCNC Stepconf Wizard then replacing the hal file with the one downloaded from Byte2bot.  When I get to the motor test screen the motor doesn't jog.  I've tried several other setups for machines, Sherline, Tormach, ...  So it seems my software configuration is not setup right.  this forum has a lot of discussion areas.  Which would be the best to start a conversation about trouble shooting my setup issue?  I've watched too many videos and read a lot of documentation files that have not yield a good result.  Appreciate some direction.

Really no idea other than possibly corrupt code on the 7I76
DSPIC.

I have seen corrupted DSPIC code on a card with output chip
damage (so 3.3V DSPIC power subjected to excess voltage)

You might try re-flashing the DSPIC with the scripts in
sserial.tgz

any idea ?
Maybe I miss some settings in the INI or HAL files ?
The hardware locks ok. because there show the digital inputs, only the analog inputs show nothing .

Yesterday was hell, but today was heaven.

I got my first cut ! Probing with the floating head worked right, arcOK signal was also working as it should, The torch turned on and off at the right time.

THC is disabled at the moment, I'll tackle things one by one.

I'm very happy right now, I'd like to thank every one, and especially tommylight again.

I've just ordered the CNC torch from stahlwerk as it will be way better in my design than the manual torch I already have. I was waiting to be sure everything worked before buying it.

Next step is to make this THC thing working.

I'll create a youtube account so I can show you what it looks like while running soon. I'll also update the wiring diagram and everything I think off for other noobs like me in some sort of closure to this topic when everything work as intended.

But right now, I'm gonna have a beer outside and enjoy the spring's sun.

Cheers !
