Low budget plasma setup, what do I need?

installed locate

Ah, I was not aware that locate was not included by default in debian
Not sure whats broken on your system

This is what I downloaded this morning and burned a DVD, so something is broken as locate reports nothing!

Well locate is not going to work until it builds the database (I think it does this nightly)
you can force a database build with:

sudo updatedb

Really not sure how halcmd can work but loadrt hostmot2 does not
Also you had one time when it did work:

updatedb did the trick, now I get report.

Will test halcmd -f etc.. and I get back again.
