I got it to work,
I set the tool offset values to negative and change the torch to Tool 2 and the Scribe to Tool 1.
The text is from the DXF file I imported to sheetcam.

Make sure that the DXF is saved in R12 format.

Well today was not a total waste Phill,
I had a similar problem, I solved it by exploding the text into its segments.
I have attached the DXF to this post.

This post may be better...
Edit: It seemed to work on your dxf file. Well it did up until the limit imposed by the 'free' version of SheetCam.

So thats what a $1000 part looks like (whats your hourly rate Stefan?)
I have not played much with text in DXF files but: the terminology changes from program to program but putting my old printers hat on (eg. using Adobe Illustrator teminology) you would need to convert your text to curves so the fonts are no longer required. This process replaces the vectors defined in the font with vectors embedded in the drawing, The other tricky thing is you need a single point font. When converted to curves, fonts usually end up with an outline and a fill. Its easy to delete the fill, but then you end up with two seperate lines to engrave, Stefan's font only comprises a single line...
There is so much history behind fonts becasue they were once molded from hot metal by the printer so they had a real value. This carried into the digital age and I do remember getting a real good group buy on the Adobe Type Library (about 3000 fonts) for about $4k when the retail price was about $30k but could be discounted to $12k in industry sometimes. And yes, it fitted on a CD!
