How to cut thick material from edge

I've never done it on a machine, always by hand. I would angle the torch head and wash the molten material away for piercing thick material.

Yeah I am the same. I have always been curious with the CNC Oxys, with how they work with their nozzles. I know from my own experience when you do not get a nice straight oxy flame because of a dirty nozzle that cut quality goes to shit fast.

Maybe they have a special kind of nozzle. I will look into it when I get time.

How fast do Oxy machines move Tom? I would imagine very slowly, also how do they go with piercing?

Very slow, but that depends on the torch a lot. The one i used to cut that piece was and older machine torch, weight over 5KG, also had a new one at about 1.2KG, so huge difference just in weight.
The older one had nozzles about 6cm long, so plenty of room to direct the flow, the new one had less than 3cm.
IIRC, i cut it at 400mm/m as i was scared to push it faster. Chikin ! :)
