It should be LINUXCNC - 2.9.0-pre0-4846-gb4eabbe1a
Open Synaptic and click the Search button on the right side then enter linuxcnc and check the result, it should be like the attachment.

Well, that's certainly different. Strange, I have done update and dist-upgrade only an hour or 2 ago

Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
Can you got to Synaptic Settings > Repositories and make sure they match and are the only two linuxcnc repos that are checked.
