Keeping the connector means keeping half a metter of unshielded cable, roled above a big brushed motor, acting like an inductor and collecting interference.
I do have some RS232 connectors i can use, nothing better.
I also have some new industrial connectors but all are 3 pin ones.
Some diving through the shop today, apparently! :)

I have the connectors wired and soldered, need to mount them on the machine and wire to Mesa 7i77, but i am busy retrofitting 2 of old Messer plasma cutters, just removing old wiring is a one week job! :)

With all the stuff i am dealing lately, i still managed to mount one encoder on the Z axis! Oh good.
Oh bad, i need the encoder on Z axis to be able to test and tune first, but the existing resolver does not want to come out, yet! :)
X axis has a hydraulic brake and limited motion that hamper testing and tuning, hence i need the Z axis, if if there is a rounout it gives me a bit of time to stop things before that oh so nice breaking stuff sounds! :)
Also, have to get the 23" Dell touchscreen monitor from one of 3D printers and mount it on the Mazak, the 23" NEC that was on it went to one of the plasma machines i am retrofitting, as luck would have it it was the biggest screen size i could fit inside the cabinet on that machine.

disconnect the servo motors from the ball screws, hand run ball screws. how i have done the 3 machines i have converted. also, lets you count turns with a dial indicator to measure screw pitch.

also, being able to tune the servo speed and tach feedback without having to move the machine makes it easier to scale voltage commands.

if you know pitch and you know motor speed and you know your voltage scales, you can calculate your IPM and velocity close enough to get moving safely, and life is much easier.

if it's using a wedge coupler loosen it up and oil the shaft. your not going to be running it alot of time. i removed my belts and servo motors, usually a relatively simple affair.

hand held tach off Amazon make life easy, measure speed, bam  done. adjust input gain to desired ipm, done. reinstall drive with direction, etc confirmed.

Just spent over 2 hours inside the machine yanking out the resolver on Z axis, got it out ! :)
And mounted the encoder.
YAYYYYY
Maybe tomorrow evening, if time permits, mount the 23" Dell touchscreen monitor, yank the PC out and replace with a Dell 9020 as it has an Intel network card so no issues with new kernels, and test the existing drives, after i wire the encoders to Mesa 7i77....
I know, i know, PICTURES !!!
Coming soon ...
