Well I did it. The lathe has been ordered just moments ago . I decided to still go with the G0602Z with
the already installed DRO instead of sourcing the linear scales and installing them myself. I cant wait to
dig into this machine and CNC it. :cheer:

1) I converted my Lathe two years back. I have two encoders for X/Z to use it manually. I'd strongly recommend this.

2) I do have Glasscales and think this is a waste of money. I did this to measure tolerances / fits in X, but you never measure really what happens on the part.

3) open loop steppers work fine. You want to use a belt reduction on X to get resolution. I think I get 0.002mm resolution in X and 1m/min travel.

4) I used a normal spindle in X for space reasons. Ballscrews are imho not essential on a lathe

5) I used Machinekit + Beaglebone Black and IO over PRU. Main reason are that I needed lots of IO
Mesa Cards are an option and I would consider this

6) since this is the show your stuff forum.... Video here. Enable the English subtitles

thanks Malte S ,I may have to try the dual MPG wheels on my build. I was just going to do a single with a selector switch
but now the dual wheels look extremely handy to have . The biggest problem I had with going to glass scales
on a machine like the one I am getting is how much space the X axis glass scale would require over the magnetic one.

another quick update . The ballscrew kit and steppers have been ordered
ballscrew kit
stepper motors
A few steps closer. :)

I do have a question for those who have built cnc lathes .
Is it better to drill with the tail stock drill chuck or set up a drill chuck for the quick change tool post ?
and What rotary encoder is recommended for the spindle ?
