Leith,

One thing real quick... I probably didn't explain fully about how to hook it up.

If it is like other DNC type software, then should be like this.... you put the Hurco software on the computer and then use the DB9 com port to wire into the Amphenol connector on the back of the machine... usually just 3 wires if I remember correctly. You have the PC ready and when when you fire up the control and it ask to load master, you then upload with the PC.

Worst case could call Buddy and find out exactly what to do.

EDIT: I have to run to town, but later I will look at the wires you need to hook up from the DB9 if you don't already have it figured out. It's been a really long time since I have built a cable for doing drip feed.

Leith,

Ok here is the pin out for a DB9 with the pinout for the hurco schematic for DNC type connection. This should work for the Hurco software to communicate. You will need to do a few settings to setup the port such as baud rate, etc....

Will be back tomorrow,
Robert

Leith,

I went back and looked at your machine and you only have one port on the rear instead of two.

Got the servo AC power working today.

X and Z servos seem to work.

The Y servo gives an overcurrent error on the MAX-430 amp.

Swapped Z and Y servo motor connections on the amps, and the problem follows the Y servo motor. The Z motor seems to work fine on the Y amp.

So, something wrong with the Y motor :( .

Some used stuff on Ebay. Some place offering repair services. I wonder if I might be better off replacing the motor/amp with something a little more modern.

I looked at the wiring behind that connector.

There some hacked in black box. Inside the black box there is a single opto-isolator. Pointing in the out direction.

Its not a serial bus.

If they are brushed DC ones, first thing is to open the brushes and check if they need replacement, then blow air through the brush hole from all sides and check the coper inside where the brushes touch.
Usually that is the reason for over current errors.
