So after a long abscence from the forums k wanted to give an update
Well i got the Servo motors quite a while ago actually
They are from lichuan and seem to be yasakawa copys sadly they didnt fit to the original iec size mounting holes so i got adapters made by a friend living just 1 state away
The rest of the time got spend reverse engineering the pins of the harting connectors from the machine as i had the wrong documentation
ordering new electrical components
thinking about the wiring more and ordering more components and so on
i think for now i got a rough plan on how i could do it?
Well i am still thinking about how to exactly controll my hardware
or course i can controll my vfd with +10v
And my Servo drives with +-10V
as my mesa cards supports
but then the functionality of my servo drives which support modbus and profibuss over an ethernet cabel and my vfd supporting modbus aswell kinda would go to waste
Though i have to be honest i still dont get the difference between all thw protocolls and version
And even how to possibly go about connecting my profibus/modbus servodrives to linuxcnc which use an rj45/ethernet plug
while the vfd uses raw rs232
also i heard it would be bad necause of the delay involved?
What is your guys opinion about the topic
Of course all of this came up cause i decided to rip all the old electrics out and redo it
Thanks for reading my monologue
i hope i can show you guys one day a working mill

You are welcomed !
To be blunt, i do not care about any of the buses = to many of them and each and every one of them has a weak and a good point, hence i never bother with them. Not sure but i think modbus is not real time capable so that leaves it out of everything for me.
My advice, use the analogue controls with encoder feedback on everything and never look back.

Hi Christoph,
I'm Mischa from the Netherlands and new here.
How is the retrofit of the FP4A coming along? Do the Lichuan motors meet your requirements? I have the same FP4A and I'm planning on using closed loop steppers, so I like your idea of starting this thread a lot. I'm looking forward to read about your findings.

Hey Mischa
i finished most of the electrical stuff 1 month ago but as i am in university
exam time came up and i had to stop
only thing left to go is the controll with linuxcnc
well i*d always go for servos
the lichuan servos are rather cheap
in the same price class as steppers in the same size
and allow for okay speeds
the speed of the deckel isnt fast already and putting steppers on might not do the thing
that doesnt mean its coherently a bad idea
feel free to post stuff on your own project in here too I*d like to read about it too

Yes it is thank you. But i cant seem to find him habing found a proper solution to his gearbox
Re: The FP5NC gearbox: 6 speed driven by 2 motors with braking resistors. 'Gearbox' motor drives shift fork to low, medium and high gear and the 'Backgear' motor drive fork to high, neutral or low gear.
