Earlier in this thread I posted something and it loaded in a yellow box that scrolled.
I have no idea how I did that.
Please let me know the technique so I can cut down on the length of some of these posts.

Thanks

I might have done it for you :-)

You need to put the text in "code" tags. You can either select all the text you want to put in the box then click the icon above that is 16 along, with the <> characters on it, or just type (code) at the beginning and (/code) at the end.
Except you need to use square brackets, not the curved ones. I couldn't use the square ones above, as then they would have been interpreted as code tags, and not been visible.

[ 216.040680] config string '0 out 1 out 2 out 3 out'
[ 216.040887] PARPORT: ERROR: linux parport 1 not found

Well that shows the ports could not be automagically divined, shame, so back to trial and error

What should I do next?

Find out if the port address is real, if not try the next one from the lspci print and so on ...........

I might have done that for you. If you click on Reply as opposed to Quick Reply you get more options. When you paste long bits of code you can select the whole bit and click on the icon that has <> with a page and it will add the code tags for you.
This is a sample of code tags

notice it preserves any indenting and spacing you have

I apologize ahead of time for the following, I know I'm being redundant.

Can I conclude that the earlier questions copied below that have not been answered means that they are superfluous and unimportant, or??????
Am I being anal in this fog of ignorance?

The commands from Arceye's link have not been entered yet.
From what I know they are needed.

I need to understand exactly were to type the following:

addf parport.1.read base-thread
addf parport.1.write base-thread
addf parport.2.read base-thread
addf parport.2.write base-thread

Or do I need these command at this time?
I know I need them in any case, so nailing this down now rather than later seems worthwhile.
The section in the Hal Manual on “addf” is brief, I know it adds a real time function to a thread, and it is done prior to loading net commands creating connections between a signal (a virtual wire) and the pins we are trying to make changes to eventually. (A pin, something physical, finally).
But is there a sequence or order to where these commands are added?

Please let me know the following.

When running John T's tester, I expect the best way to confirm the address and port are functioning correctly is to use the “Resistor to Gnd” method. The proximity or limit switch method (for my part) seems ambiguous at the moment. Is there any other method to use the “Testport Meter”?
Or, can I just toggle the buttons for now and get the results we need and use the resistor when we try and test for output at a pins?

(I am experimenting with the forum option, I'm not sure this will appear correctly).

I need to understand exactly were to type the following:

addf parport.1.read base-thread
addf parport.1.write base-thread
addf parport.2.read base-thread
addf parport.2.write base-thread

This is an extract from one of my configs, example being the best form of instruction

loadrt probe_parport
## SUN1888 pci parport card 0x6800 main socket 0x6000 low profile - not currently used
loadrt hal_parport cfg="0x378 out 0x6800 in"
setp parport.0.reset-time 1000
addf parport.0.read base-thread
addf parport.0.write base-thread
addf parport.0.reset base-thread

addf parport.1.read base-thread
addf parport.1.write base-thread

Note that there is no parport.2 at present because we are only defining 2 parports (0 and 1)

Arceye,

I couldn't agree with you more, example is a profound method of instruction.

Quick question, on the “Port Tester”, When I click and hold the button on the out puts the colour changes, but returns to red when I release the mouse button.
Is this the result we are looking for?
Or should it remain green after release?

I'm curious, why is there no command for step pule generation step type in your file and I have one in mine?

Back to you.
