unable to get step motors to move at all?? was created by submicro
Hello
I'm running an Ubuntu box with 10.04 Lucid 2.6.32-122-rtai kernel. I'm using a Keling 3 Axis kit which includes, 3 keling 4030 stepper drivers, 2 270 oz in motors and one 385 oz in motor, a c10 parallel breakout board, and a 36v 9a power supply.
I wired it up according to the keling documentation.
I've tried the Stepconf Wizard many times using many configurations with no joy!
I have no idea what to try next............ If anyone can help it would appreciated, if more info is needed just ask I'll get it!
I just noticed that the Y axis motor locks up as soon as I power everything up. I mean it won't budge either way! but the X axis motor stays loose? I'm lost

Sounds like the Y has power and the X does not...
Do your drives need an enable?
Did you configure you output pins to match your wiring?

yes i setup the pins and wiring to match.
no the driver does not require an enable, it does have one but if left unconnected then it defaults to enabled.
Also How can I verify that my parallel port is working and seen by EMC2??

Some breakout boards invert signals. I have such a board and it took a long time to get it working.
Just try to invert step pins at stepconf.

If the X axis motor doesn't lock up, this is a drive, power wiring, motor wiring, or motor problem, nothing to do with EMC.
If the drives are enabled by default, connecting nothing but the motor to the drive and supplying the drive with power should get you a "locked" step motor...

You may have blown an opto on the C10, I've done that before on mine. Swap steppers at the C10 and see if the X will move and the Y will not...

I double checked the wiring and yes one motor was wrong but I fixed that and now both lock up when powered. Is this a problem do I need an enable line?
I went and got a parallel port card today, gonna see if it was the port.
If the opto is blown I can just replace one of the three chips right?
Thanks 4 the advice..

If you don't have the C10 enabled you don't get any outputs to your drives!
