These images have been removed

These images will be removed at the end of March

The Devuan distribution is based on Debian without systemd

Devuan uses sysvinit as the default init system although other init systems are available

A network connection is not required during installation as all required files are in each image. An assortment of non-free network packages are pre-installed so network connection should be possible after the installation

Common to all images:
  • 64 bit
  • Boot from Legacy Bios rather than UEFI
  • All dependencies required to build LinuxCNC
  • All dependencies required for displaying QtVCP screens
  • All dependencies required for building QtVCP screens with Qt Designer
Two distro versions, Devuan2 or Devuan3:
  • Devuan2 (ASCII) is based on Debian9 (Stretch)
  • Devuan3 (Beowulf) is based on Debian10 (Buster)
Two desktops, Cinnamon or XFCE

Two kernel flavours, PREEMPT_RT or RTAI:
  • PREEMPT_RT images have a package installation of LinuxCNC 2.9 from the Buildbot
  • RTAI images have a run in place installation of LinuxCNC 2.9
Kernel versions:
  • Devuan2 PREEMPT_RT kernel is 4.19.67-2
  • Devuan3 PREEMPT_RT kernel is 4.19.98-1
  • Devuan2 RTAI kernel is 4.14.148
  • Devuan3 RTAI kernel is 4.14.148
Default root password is 1234

Default user is lcnc with 1234 as the password, this is set for automatic login

You can install directly from the running Live CD by clicking Menu - Administration - Refracta Installer

Default swap is an inbuilt 1Gb swap file so you can create a single partition on your drive if you prefer, otherwise create a swap partition during install and select that rather than a swap file

Passwords may be changed during the installation

The default user name may be changed during the installation. This will delete the existing user (lcnc) and the new user will start with a default profile and manual login

Tested on a VmWare virtual machine and on a baremetal machine booting from a 8Gb USB thumb drive burnt with Balena Etcher on a iMac

The RTAI images do not fully utilise all display adapters. The baremetal machine with Intel 915 graphics was restricted to 1024 x 768 and software 3D

Vbox was ok, Cinnamon crashed but restarted ok, has a message about running in software rendering mode.

Yep runs apache from boot, accessible in firefox @ 127.0.0.1.

Haven't installed on baremetal yet, still working on a Mint 19.2 iso, not enough free space for extra partitions on my hdd.

Ran through a few sims, issue with PyQt5 but neither here nor there really.

Would it be possible to include the RTAI kernel from www.linuxcnc.org/temp/ too? That has ~5-10 times better latency.
