Strange... did you import the project into STM32cubeIDE or just open the folder directly. Both the debug and release profiles should have UDP working. The debug profile has caused some timing issues in Mbed because of the additional debug code compiled in.

Just Open Project from filesystem
Build configuration->set Active->Release
Build Project
But before went to Core/Src/main.cpp and changed line 116 to extern struct netif gnetif;
and Properties->C/C++ Build->Settings->MCU Post Build outputs  checked Convert to binary file (-O binary )

After struggling for hours I realize that the ethernet card was unmanaged by Networkmanager and I was always trying to configure his IpAddress through nmtui.  and for that no communications between Novusum-Nvem and computer.
i've setup the firmware in configure.h to 120kz compiled and download to Novusum and Success.. having test now..

Hi Scotta, yes 200-250 KHz would be very, very usable.  I'm currently retrofitting a milling machine, by the time you use 1000 count encoders, in quadrature that's 4000 pulses per rev, you start running out of speed at anything under 100KHz. Ideally I'd like to set the encoders even higher but I'd get away with 1000 count.

kwarup does that mean you are theoretically getting 120 KHz step rates ? As I mentioned above that is getting into the ball park for me, I would be happy to order a board and start testing on my hardware, on that note, is this the correct board I should be ordering ?

Does the step rate change with the number of axis being used?

Cheers.
Russell.

Hi Russell,

With the current DDS step generator the step rate is the same regardless of the number of axes. It will max out between 80 - 100khz I think. The work I've been doing with the DMA stepgen, I hope pay off and give higher step rates. For this version the max rate may be dependent on the number of axes.

Yes, that is the NVEM board, you may also be interested in the EC500 which I think is a nicer board IMO.

Righto, I will look at the EC500 as well.

Thanks for all you've done so far, fingers crossed for higher step rates.

Russell.

Some good news regarding the NVMPG for the EC500. It is now working. I had to modify the version of the EC500 I have to remove the opto couplers between the MCU and MAX232 IC. Serial would work a 9600 baud but nothing higher, the optos were just not fast enough. The newer version of the board does not have these so I was pretty sure they were the culprit.

A bit fiddly to remove, but well worth it.With the optos removed I was able to get the serial comms working and noted that I had not updated the DMA RX interrupt handlers from the NVEM version of the code.

So all working now and ready for testing.I've got issues pushing updates to the Remora-Novusun repo so have had to create a new Remora-EC500 repo temporarily. The latest bin file is here github.com/scottalford75/Remora-EC500/tree/main/Firmware

When you say the EC500 is a nicer board are you referring to the connections/layout or does it have functions that the NVEM doesn't? I see it has a higher pulse rate written on it, I understand that probably doesn't matter with how we are using it here. The NVEM is slightly cheaper but if it performs better then I'll go with the EC500.
