if someone is from germany and has a Mesa 7C81 or 7I90HD lying around that he can lend for 1-2 weeks,
then I would try to port RIO to it

where is the github repository for baord

The RIO 5ax board is by no means ready and yet to be tested. I believe the PCB fab are currently laying out the silkscreen on it today, and so quite far from being a for-public release. Check back in a week or two, we should have significant progress made then.

In a meantime (if in a rush) the Tang Nano 9k from Sipeed is as close as it gets to the Rio 5ax. Will require a W5500 module to go with it and some sort of 3V3-5V/5V~3V3 translation.

That's a brilliant idea. Rather than spending time and effort on getting a board out there I'm now thinking about getting one of those Mesa and just getting ready with that. Wow, never thought of that. Any particular reason for getting a 7C81 or 7I90HD? Let me know which you recommend and I'll order one now.

Oh man, why you didn't flag this up before today. Certainly not going to get the 7C81 (raspi thing) but will press on getting a 7I90HD right away. Geez, excellent timing none the less, saves me from assembling >$200 worth of parts on some pcb I don't even know works lool

no no no, you should finish building your board,
forget the mesa cards again very quickly :)

I just want to support as many boards as possible and these 2 mesa boards have no network, so it will be easy to support them. especially since the Spartan6 are already supported anyway.

If anyone has the boards, I'm happy to help remotely create the configs for them.

Goes to show how much I need to learn, this option honestly slipped my radar. Awesome, seriously. You need me to put 2 (two) on order? happy to drop-ship one over DE for you to thinker with.

Screw that pricey gowin board, common sense lool Not all wasted though, no worries, good ref design for other projects!!

edit: boy oh boy, you said spartan6... that means the old buggy IDE/ISE ver 14 something something, forgot. Uh oh.. alarm
