Check the shiny plate, it should look very uniform around the rim where the very small slots are, if there is any change in appearance give it a very careful alcohol bath and use a very soft brush. Very soft.

I think it ha an issue because the count is not constant, if I turn in the same direction there are some spots where its counting up and down and up again.
this one seems to work a bit different. there are two discs moving against each other.
I will try to give it a clean tomorrow. Cause I think it won't be easy to find one with a fitting keyway shaft

That is the best solution, this might have caused some issues later on.

So just vey few things need to arrive to get her done.
This weeks work for the delivery guy were the fluids and the deal fo the oil tank. I need to open it for changing the servo:
and the low amp fuses to protect the mesa IO's together with the last motor protectors and some cables:
now it's time to walk the dog an later take a look at making the configs and setting up some test environment when staring to build up the machine again. And the will be some padding tor the Encoder adapter and the sheet metal to cover the holes the old control left.

almost finished the Hal and gave the IO's a first test:
the spindle with the manual gears still gives me some headache.

Yesterday evening I failed to make real progress. Took me half evening to get my M-Codes executed, just to realise I am not able to map bash scripts to M codes < 100.
So trying again this evening with python. And then hopefully getting the q&d solution for the gearbox running.
Did I mention that I need more leisure time to get my hobby projects done...

With a lot of help of this forum and a midnight session yesterday, I got the first test of my two stage gearbox solution running
The gear selection is blocked while the spindle is running.
When the first gear set is changed the parameters of the second stage will be adjusted.
Now seeing what I have done with a night of sleep in between I might redo it...
It calculate the whole scale for both stages and insert it, so I only use the first stage for storing parameters.
So I can skip the first stage in hal and move that to my script. And the make ist neat maybe move it to python, make a nice dialog, find a way to get it in my post processor.... I see a lot of sleepless nights coming
But now it’s in an stage where I can start testing it with hardware... At least I thin so, till I fry something.

Did not do much on the lathe project this weekend, just finished some drawings:
this will become the new lid for the console. Left are the holes for E-stop and the mpgs right the holes fo the touch screen.
and the interface to fit the new encoder to the spindle.
maybe I'll fiddle around with the vcp later
