OK I have made some major strides.....Thank you again. I was able to get the direct velocity to read in the Spindle Rpm widget a major breakthrough as far as starting to be able to read and write in the Hal language.

Now I am trying to filter the Velocity feed back to a usable number. When I go to Hal Watch I can see the counts from the spindle-vel-fb on the lowpass.spindle.in but there is nothing coming from lowpass.spindle.out, How could I screw this up?

lowpass.spindle.gain 0.1
I also tried 1 and .01

do you have the lowpass filter installed and connected?
something like

loadrt lowpass count=1

addf lowpass.0 servo-thread

That did it! I now have a spindle readout. I had them loaded but not turned on in the servo thread.
Thanks again-Pete I will be thanking you by purchasing new boards if I ever learn enough to get this first one running!
