Alright then!! Thank You very much!
Now, how do i proceed with configuring the machine with linuxcnc?
Do i need to start off with the latency test and proceed from there?
Or do i need to do some groundwork before i can reach that stage?

First step is probably to configure the drive to work on step pulses.
As it happens, step/dir is traditional but possibly the least technically elegant. quadrature input is nicest if the drive supports it. (but there are a bazillion step/dir machines out there all working fine)

Thank you again!
Ok, so by configuring the drive to work on step pulses do you mean the Stepper configuration wizard in Linux CNC?
And also is there any documentation that can help me in doing this?

No, I mean configuring the hardware using the Copley controls utility that the docs you have linked refer to.

Thank You and sorry for replying late, i was out of town for the weekend.

Do i have to install the software CME2 that copley controls provided with the driver and then configure the hardware?
Or is it something to do with physically configuring the hardware?
I apologize if my questions seem weak as i am a complete novice in this field. :)

Yes, it sounds like one or the other of those.

(I have no idea, you would need to read the documentation)

In my experience with Copley Controls you have to use the CME2 software to set the drive up. I've not used this drive in particular but the software is fairly easy once you learn how to save the changes and enable the drive. And it is Windoze software and requires a serial port or serial port emulator to work.

One more thing that i had not mentioned is that the stage and the drive are already configured to interact with LabView.
We control the stage in X, Y and Z directions using Labview on windows.

Does this mean that the drive is already configured to run step pulses as we have been using it with labview for quite awhile now?

Also i was wondering if there any stage manufacturers out there whose drivers are straight away configured to run with Linux CNC?

How is it connected to the LabView PC? (Ie, to which port?)

The vast majority of stepper drives are step/dir so will work with LinuxCNC. (Or, for that matter, Mach).
These Copley drives seem rather the oddity.

Its connected through a serial port. The type of serial port is the RS - 232 port.
