Hi Diekie and Peter.

I have solved this issue using the built-in Network Manager.
I added routes to the eth0 adapter to recognise the network of the wireless wlan adapter.

It is not possible to bridge, this is what I was trying to do. However the Network Manager understands the routing and handles the packets accordingly.

Please confirm receipt of this email.

Kind Regards--

Hi,

I have another challenge.
I'm using the 7i92, two 7i77's, two 7i70's, and one 7i71.
I used pnc conf to generate the basics, now I'm busy changing all 5i25 to 7i92 etc, and pci to eth. which is time consuming, but I don't mind too much. I trust that the 7i92 will be included in pnc conf soon.
Now... Pnc conf. gives the option to add one sserial to each 7i77. but I know there is a possibility to add more 7i70 in serialb (up to 32 Smart serial devices according to man(9) ). I need to modify my .hal files to suit, and I need advice on the serial connections.
I am busy reading up about it, but really struggling to understand. It would be great if someone can advice me where to look it up, as currently I'm using man(9) pages, and mesa documentation from mesanet.com . at this stage a example would really put me on track.

Thanks for the support

Hi Peter,
we cant work both usb wireless and 7i92 at the same time.

Why not? It works for me on a 7i76e on ethernet 10.10.10.10 and a USB wifi back to my network.

And yes I agree, PCW's Mesa cards are simply amazing!

See the reply on 26 Oct '16. This problem has been solved. :)

Thanks.
now I want to figure out how to connect 2 x 7i70 to one 7i77.

I guess you have read man sserial (in html form here linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/man/man9/sserial.9.html )

The 7i77 only has one smart-serial output per card. So with your existing hardware you can only use two smart-serial ports.

You could replace one of the 7i77 cards with a 7i74 (and change the firmware to suit) to break-out 8 more smart-serial ports.
What pins are you using on the second 7i77? Could those functions be offloaded to a smart-serial card?

Okay, So to set things straight, I tried to connect two 7i70 's to one 7i77, but no success. I set jumpers W12, and W13 to non-terminated, on one card, and tried linking RX TX in serial, but I have a feeling it is more complicated than just that. I also noticed there is some place for other components to be fitted on the 7i70, (U7,TP1,TP2) Maybe another connector option? And possibly a different way, Different firmware etc. Well, I might have to wait for Peter to advice me on this.

Things running through my mind... Brainstorming. ...
I google RS-485, I tried connecting this way(TX of 7i77 to both RX of both 7i70's, and both 7i70's TX to RX of 7i77), but unsuccessful. So now I am thinking to connect TX of 7i77 to RX of first 7i70, TX of first 7i70 to RX of second 7i70, and TX of Second 7i70 to RX on 7i77... Don't shoot me if this is a stupid Idea, but I'm just brainstorming how this is supposed to work. ... I'm Trying...

But yes, Thanks Andy, I just discovered a E-mail from Peter where he confirms what you are saying now. I need to get a 7i74

You can only have one sserial device per interface so that limits you to 2 expansion sserial devices
if you have a 7I92/7I77x2 config

What I/O do you really need?

There are a couple of different card options that allow more expansion

for example:

7I92 +7i77 +7I85

This gives you the 7I77 I/O plus 4 more encoder inputs plus 5 more expansion sserial channels (6 total)

Another option is to replace the 7I92 with a 7I80DB

Hi Thanks Peter and Andy for your replies.
In short, I need to use 9 Encoder inputs, 7 Analog outputs, about 140 Digital inputs, 3 Analog inputs, (which I can read via 7i70), and about 50 Digital outputs.

This was my reason for choosing this combination(7i92+2x7i77+2x7i70+1x7i71), I was under the impression that more than one sserial devices could be connected to a 7i77.

But I discovered a e-mail from long ago, where Peter did confirm that I need to use a 7i74 if I require more inputs.

So... Where to from here? I need to order the correct combination. Is there any possibility to use my current combination? , as I have allready completed the wiring on the machine. Else, What combination would you suggest here?

Thanks for your assistance so far.

Well, in second 7i77, I have 3 x Encoder inputs, of which one is a mpg, and one analog output for a vsd. So, Rest is just Digital inputs and Digital outputs.
