Sorry, my mistake. They end up in /usr/realtime....../modules/linuxcnc

I did find it there.
I am not able to test it or see anything it does. I am not sure where I would see it or its actions. Nothing is different when I open LCNC from my shortcut.

Nothing will be different, you haven't changed anything yet....
You can try running the new demo config. That should show signs of running the toolchanger as a simulation, but it won't run your machine.
You need to look at how the toolchanger component is set up in the demo config and modify that to suit your machine config.
