@Endian,

I am not ready with the .iso, but you can try this archive. Unpack it where you want.
Then : ./install.sh

I didn't test it on a fresh .iso so i can not confirm it works straight away.
After installing goto : ~/linuxcnc/cmake/configs and do : ./run_axis_9

At your own risk:
repository.qtpyvcp.com/repo/linux-distro/lcnc_archive.tar

I will check it in my virtual machine and let you know but the best path will be to wait for your iso file because of all the components and stuff around ...

Re the ISO in a hurry, you could fork the Bookworm branch of Linuxcnc's live-build which I have maintained
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build
Follow the instructions to install and run the builder after cloning

Append your build script to this file
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...linuxcnc.hook.chroot
or add a seperate file starting with 520-
clone your repository into a folder under /tmp and you should be able to  build and install anything you need.

You would need to delete this file which installs Linuxcnc from the repository at Linuxcnc.org
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...-lists/linuxcnc.list

Add any additional dependencies to
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...e-lists/desktop.list

You probably need to delete all 6 files containing Linuxcnc in the name as these are the apt settings
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...worm/config/archives
note preempt_rt is a dependency of linuxcnc-uspace so you will need to explicitly install it.

This will install the Ethercat repositories :)

You may wish to update some of these fields
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc-live-build/...bookworm/auto/config

Note that the Debian live build inherits the version of Debian you run this on. eg if you run this on Trixie, you will get a Trixie ISO

If you have any questions, just ask.

Hi,

I finally have some succes, after a long story.

The software is already pre-configured so that linuxcnc scurve runs.

This then is a debian 12 rt distribution running:
  • linuxcnc scurve
  • ethercat-master
  • cia402
  • linuxcnc-ethercat
Download mirror:
repository.qtpyvcp.com/repo/linux-distro/

README.md
  1. The readme file informs how to extract the 2 archives of type .7z.
  2. The readme file informs how to proceed with the .img files.

The user has 2 choices.
  1. Using .img "debian_disk" wich can be loaded into a linux vm directly.
  2. Using .img "debian_raw" wich can be copied to usb and is a bootable linux distro.

@Rodw,

Thank you for your effort, all your input so far.

I have tried to create a .iso for day's, using the lb build system and also by using a chroot environment.
However it failed at some point when the .iso installation was ~60% complete.
Also the linuxcnc live build failed at some point, it had something todo with filmware, but that's no problem.

Then creating .deb packages is also a lot off work. As you have at least 2 types. The normal packages and the -dev packages
wich includes .headers etc.
I think we have to use 3 types, like the normal, the -dev and the -source.

For now i use a Qemu vm. Install debian and the software we need. Then the Qemu .img file can be compressed and
downloaded by others to test in their vm.
For running on real machines, i have to do a extra conversion step from .img to other .img type,
then write the .img to usb, and it will run.

Glad you waded into the live build environment. Wait till I get you going on the raspberry Pi image missing /media/kunena/emoticons/w00t.png
Sorry it failed for you.. I had plenty of that. The biggest issue I had was getting apt configured and installing the gpt keys.
Bjarne from Etherlab was a big help there.

I think Linuxcnc builds all of the Debs in the one go.
There was a really interesting pull request from Stefan Moller that has yet to be committed which installed the dependencies the Debian way (eg. Just using one command. It would have been nice to see it in the code by now.
