Noctua, run a couple in a server that runs 24/7 in the lounge room. 2 years one and still great.
Survives the Aussie summers with no issues.

I downloaded and installed LinuxCNC 2.8.0 Debian 10 Buster PREEMPT-RT ISO

I'm not enjoying it. Took about 6 tries to get it installed, but finally it's bootable. Is this a stripped down version? I can't seem to find or access the software center as I see others doing online. Basically I'm looking to get Chrome, Google Drive, or perhaps Dropbox as Google Drive does not seem to have a Linux version.

I'm wondering If I should be using a different distribution like Mint Cinnamon? might be more friendly to a windows user?

For a more polished distro try Beagles Mint ISO:

I burned the Iso, but when I attempt to install it I get

error: /casper/vmlinuz has invalid signature.
error: you need to load the kernel first.

I'm afraid I'm a total Linux Nube

What boot media did you use ?
DVD or USB ?
If USB what utility did you use ?
Win32diskimager is the most reliable. Which ISO did you use ?
Etcher and Rufus can cause issues for some reason.
Are you booting with a UEFI system or a legacy BIOS system or using a legacy module on a UEFI system ?

I burned a DVD from my windows PC from cnc.beaglebrainz.net/cdimage/cnc-19.3.0-...ate-uspace-64bit.iso

I used Cyberlink Power2Go7 to burn the disk.

the target machine was previously loaded with Debien and I think It was UEFI that I had to force on to get that to load, But I haven't heard of UEFI before today.

The CD seems to boot fine but when I select Stast LinuxCNC or OEM Install I get the error
error: /casper/vmlinuz has invalid signature.
error: you need to load the kernel first.\

Perhaps I'll try a flash drive

Just burned the ISO to a flash drive using Win32diskimager

Same result on any menu option
error: /casper/vmlinuz has invalid signature.
error: you need to load the kernel first.\

A Tech guy and never heard of UEFI, been out of it for a bit ?
Anyways, don’t pick the OEM option.
Start the live session and on the desktop there is a shortcut for installation.
To be honest my testing of the iso is first test on a virtual machine, using both UEFI and BIOS, go through the installation on both. Then boot via USB on a real machine. Once those tests pass I upload the ISO.
Did you check the md5sum of the iso ?
If you do go the USB route please use win32diskimager as it is known to work without issue.
If you still get a failure could you post back with a little more info about your system.
Dropbox may have to be installed manually, google drive support for Linux is thin, I go use the web browser interface, tho there are some custom scripts available.
And to be honest I’ve tried Chrome and am not a fan. I’ve been a Firefox user since it was released.
I’m a big user of Sneakernet to transfer gcode from the PC to the Linuxcnc machine.

Are you able to turn off secure boot in the BIOS (as it's still generically called) ?

You need to get out windows paradigm.
Learn console isnt a option, you need to know it. Using console you can for example edit text without open it, select one text and with mouse midlle button paste it in console.

sudo apt purge google-chrome-stable

www.google.com/amp/s/linoxide.com/debian...hrome-on-debian/amp/

Have notion about su, sudo, root.
You can use the linux console from your windows machine or use some tool to have graphical linux access from windows (just saying it because your workflow using fusion and do all stuff using like web surf too at the CNC machine).

And the most important, perseverance!
