What boot media did you use ?
DVD or USB ?
If USB what utility did you use ?
Win32diskimager is the most reliable. Which ISO did you use ?
Etcher and Rufus can cause issues for some reason.
Are you booting with a UEFI system or a legacy BIOS system or using a legacy module on a UEFI system ?

Here i used Rufus and was okay.

Yes, I'm a bit out of date. I work in a super large company and do mostly enterprise application stuff these days. I don't often get the chance to play in the weeds.

The secure boot thing helped and I've moved on errors copying the files on the install from the USB, retrying from the DVD

Sorry, wasn't asking for help yet on that issue I'm retrying with the DVD and it seems to be working now.

I still haven't ordered my Mesa card. I'm not quite ready to commit, but I haven't given Mach any more money either. I really want to give this a try.

BeagleBrainz, You must be Psychic

Grub failed in /dev/sda

Not sure where my last post went. Is there a delay because I'm a new user or something?

Nah that's purely my fault. Was a while between creating ISOs.

When you get the menu press e to edit
change the text from
quiet splash
to
quiet splash efi=runtime

Then boot.

Ah, a Google Drive man after my own heart!
So now you have the distro up and running, you will be able to install Chromium which is the open source version of Chrome from the command line but I always use Google's version. In the default browser (is it Firefox?), go to www.google.com/chrome/ and download the package. you should be able to just click on it and gdebi or similar will install it for you.

Then its just a matter of logging into Chrome and all your shortcuts should replicate and you can log into Gmail and then you are sweet to get to Drive or any other Google app. The experience is identical to Windows (or the Chromebook I am typing this on)
