I double checked and it's right.

The strange thing is in your original post you're saying "So when I open up Linuxcnc and go to Show Hal Configuration, then click on pins, there is no whb there"

Which is completely at odds as to what the error log is reporting.
You need to report this as an error to the devs.

Is file in your actual config directory or is it in a sub folder within your config dir? (Just making sure since you said "Yes that folder is in with" not the "file".) It can't be in a sub directory (unless you specify the path to it.)

I still can't understand why the user appears to claim Linuxcnc is opening yet the error log shows that it isn't and is shutting down due to an error.
So either the user hasn't described the problem correctly or there is a serious error. Or I've misinterpreted his opening post.

Could we have the output of this command:
ls -la /home/mike/linuxcnc/configs/my_LinuxCNC_machine/

It only opens up if I remove the
HALFILE xhc-whb04b-6.hal
Out of the ini file.
Sorry I should have mentioned that.
And now that I'm starting to understand this a bit more, the whb won't show up if that's not in the ini file. And it needs to be able to connect with the the other file in the configuration. Am I correct on this?
I really appreciate you guys helping me out, I'm not very computer savvy as you have probably already figured out.

According to the error, either the file name or file's location isn't correct. Once you fix that it "should" work.

Alternatively you could copy and paste the contents of the "xhc-whb04b-6.hal" file to the end of of your "custom.hal" file. then remove the reference to the "xhc-whb04b-6.hal" from your ini file.

I tried to rewrite the file names just incase they where a dash instead of a minus sign and this is what I get.
