So i tried removing wcid and using netmanager and similar results. I managed to find the flash drive with the EXACT same linux debian wheezy iso that worked on my previous computer, i put it on the new pc, i used a backup of my machine configuration that is EXACTLY the same that worked on my previous computer and i get and error that resource is not available. with this new installation i no longer have the ip address issues but i cannot ping the card in the 192.168.1.121 setting or the 10.10.10.10 it says no response . is it possible that the ethernet on my mesa 7i96 is not working if its that i will gladly buy another card and be done with all this.

Also editing the interfaces file and using the network manager/wicd to edit the network stuff always ends in non functional networking. Choose one and edit, never both.

Yeah the first thing I tried when I started having trouble was a brand new cable and I’ve tried 3 others, no change.

Try connecting to your office network and get that running. That will decipher if it is hardware or not.

Try getting dhcp from your router working on it.

So i have wifi disabled on the computer so it does not interfere, i hooked the ethernet port directly to my router and i can open the internet, i am sending this message from the pc but when i click on network manager in the top corner it says no valid connections even though i clearly am connected

Its possible the 7I96 is bad though its unusual to have a good link (ip a says "UP")
and no communication.

If the card is less that 2 years old its under warranty so can be repaired/replaced
