I would verify that you get a 24V change at the 7I76E input pins relative to field
power common (TB1 pin 8) when you activate a switch, and that you have
communications ( no errors, jogging works etc)

Yes, from tb1 pin 8 to tb6 pin 8 or 9 I show 24.1v (not homed) and .343v (homed).
Jogging works so I know comms are good.

Note that TB6 pins 8 and 9 are 7I76E field inputs 7 and 8

Good call. I re-check the correct pins in halshow and same result.
I also swapped 7I76 boards ( I have 2) and same result.

Not sure if you already reported on this, if you directly connect the 24V to the input (ie as with a mechanical switch), can you see the input activate in the halshow window?
If that works can you post a picture of the proximity switches?

Tried with a mechanical switch that I verified operational on multiple pins on the 7I76. No response from halshow. Halshow seems to be working, I can see the steppers changing values when jogging. And I am using the "Watch" tab under halshow.

I originally installed Linuxcnc on my computer without a real time kernel before I realized I need a preemt-rt kernel for run in place to operate.
I am currently running 5.10.0-11-rt-amd64.
Could this have anything to do with Linuxcnc not playing nice?

No point in connecting the proximity sensors if it's not working with the mechanical switch.
So if you setup a halshow watch on all inputs of the 7i76e and use the mechanical switch (or even better just a wire) on each input in turn, can you see any changes in halshow?
Could you maybe post a screenshot of the halshow 'watch' window?
Also note that you want to make the connection to the cage inside the connector on the board and not just to the screw.
[edit]
Don't know the answer to your last post. Seems strange that some signals would work but others not.

Just a wire from the power supply to each of the pins yields no changes on halshow. I even pulled the green connector to ensure I was making contact with the pin on the board. Attached is a screenshot of the halshow pins I've been trying. I have also tried the inputs on TB5 with the same result.
My question on the last post was just some brainstorming trying to think of anything that could be causing this.
