I think that's a 1,000,000 count per turn serial encoder

Ok, so it's definitely a serial encoder, though it looks like many people have used them before with linuxcnc. I found a "fanuc servo amplifier ai series manual and the pins are only named
5v, 0v, 6v, fg, and RD and *RD the last two i geuss being serial.

I have a dead one of those (same part # A860-2000-T301) on my desk in front of me, but I know next to nothing about it other than it is definitely absolute, probably serial and non functional.

So the fanuc encoders are rs422 from what I've read in previous posts, not sure if there's a Way to use these with a 5i22, so would it be best to replace them with standard a-b-z encoders, i really want to get into wiring this thing and getting some movement out of it!

If they are standard Fanuc type I serial encoders, there is firmware to read them.

So if I ask really nicely? Any chance I could get a bit file for...
A 5i22
To run
A 7i44
Connected to 2x 8i20's
And a 7i72 and a 7i84d and a 7i73 pendant interface.
With a 7i37ta (i/o)
And a 7i47 that will do rs422 comms with the 2 servo encoders
The spindle drive will be easy enough to configure later on. It's ordered and is a simple on/reverse/ 0-5(or10v) .

Actually after reading more... I see the encoders can connect directly to the 7i44.. haven't read a lot on this yet.

(Plenty of light reading to do...)

Yes, some can, i have some serial absolute encoders in use for several years, wired to a 7i74, the 25 pin version if 7i44...i think.
Needed new firmware though, PCW took care of that.
Thank you, PCW.

I've found a 2017 firmware on github,

i22_1500 SV16 SVST8_24 SVST8_8 SVST2_4_7I47
The end one, does this (7i47) work the same as a 7i44 ??
