Also.. the 'battery backup ' for the pulsecoders, it looks as if its 6v, i probably should try to hook it to a 5v lithium phone charger battery and see if it works, easily charged and a long life.

The battery backup is external (at least on the older pulsecoders)

So as far as connections go I would connect
RD and *RD to (tx- tx+) and (rx- rx+) 5v to 5v. 0v to 0v #for encoder power.
6v and 0v to a 5v battery phone charger #which in turn is connected to a mains powered phone charger, powered on when the machine is running.
all of these -except the 6v supply can be connected directly to a rj45 connection to my 7i44.

SSerialTag
this really looks like i need to go talk to my programmer friend...

I can build this for you if I have the desired configuration parameters
How many sserial channels and Fanuc encoder channels do you need?
Do you need the 7I47?
What I/O should be on the 7I44 and on the 7I47 (if 7I47 is used)

There's 7 channels used by the 7i44
2 of these are for the 2 fanuc encoders.
2 are for 8i20's
1x 7i72
1x 7i84d
1x 7i73 Pendant interface
The 5i22 has connected to its 4 ports
The 7i44
A 7i37ta
A 7i37com
And a 7i47.- this need to be used for turret encoder, and spindle encoder. If I can output 5v from it I'll use it to control the spindle, otherwise I'll use modbus thru the pc serial port. So if it'll run 3(abz) encoders and drive 0-5v that's all it's needed for.
The last machine I converted- I kept running out of i/o!

5i22-1.5 bifile for 7I47 on P2 and 7I44 on P5
(P3 and P4 are GPIO for 7I37)
7I74 ch 0..5 are sserisl
7I74 ch 6,7 are fanuc serial pulsecoder

all good, been reading thru the vhd file to map out where the cards/encoders connect.
thanks heaps for this! lots of wiring and testing to do now
