My first thought is that you might be loading the wrong kernel. type
uname -r
at the command prompt?

You might have some luck asking on the #emc IRC channel, details here:
www.linuxcnc.org/component/option,com_mo...emid,8/lang,english/

You should be able to chat live with devs and users (if anyone is online and listening)

Im sure it has something to do with this specific computer. I loaded the same disk on 2 other computers and had no problem.

Could it be that Im running a 64bit processor (Phenom II 6 core) and Ubunta is setting itself up as 64bit??

It looks like the problem at the bottom of this page:

wiki.linuxcnc.org/emcinfo.pl?Ubuntu10.04PackageNotes

(Basically RTAI does not like 6-core machines)

You can either disable some cores, or possibly buy one of the inexpensive Atom boards, which work a treat. D510MO is very popular and about $70.

Ill play with the boot settings and see what happens.
Thanks for the help.

For the record it is a ASUS M4A89GTD PRO mother board and a Phenom II 6 core black processor.

Ubunta seems to work great. Just problems with the CNC program.

Yes, the problem is with the RTAI patch, not with the standard Ubuntu kernel.
