Thank you Peter.

I have whipped up a new base for the new encoder.

And just in case also a modified the base for the encoder with malfunctioning Index
This is with a proximity senors fitted in. Also a bigger threaded fitting on other side if Mr Murphy comes to visit ;)
takes now Ø8mm and Ø12mm prox.

Crude? You have not seen my soldering!

Looks very professional to me!

I would have preferred a PCB but just too much for this one-off.

So guys,

The new encoder is in place and was tested on the test-bench before and all functions where OK.

Still having problems with no Index pulse. What is going on here?
Opening hal - show - 7i76e - encoder 00 and A/B works OK but not Index on TB3 pin 13

Any ideas how to proceed??

I would check that you can measure the index signal with a voltmeter first
then check in hal

Also make sure that the 7I76E encoder inputs are jumpered for TTL mode (all three jumpers)

Jumpers are to the left.

I can measure index transition before 74HCT14N and the ouput transitions are OK when NOT connected to TB3 PIn 13.
Tricky but doable by hand turning spindle.

When connected to pin 13 the voltage level is high all the time and I can not replicate the transition as in non connected.

So is the hal watch index yellow constantly on or is there something wrong?

Sounds like the connection from your 74HCT14 to TB3 pin 13 is missing (it will always be high if unconnected)

You can check the 7I76E by grounding TB3 pin 13 and seeing if the index signal changes

Yes it does.

Took my 74HCT board up to my lab and all is working OK.
Only difference now is GND to the encoder that goes directly to 24VDC PSU output instead of GND on TB3.
But A/B channels work OK that way so it should not be any difference there.

MrMurphy is hiding somewhere ;)

If your 74HCT14 ground is not connected to TB3 ground you will not get reliable signals
If your encoder ground is not common with the 74HCT14 ground you will not get good signals either
