homing use two speeds;
home search velocity is the 'course' speed used to find the rough position of the switch.
latch velocity is the 'fine' speed for precision latching of of the switch position.

home offset is the distance of the home switch to the origin.

This explained in detail here:
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/config/ini-homing.html

Ok

Home ignore limits: So does that mean that it won’t stop if it trips the switches? I guess this one still confuses me

Ok Home and limit switches are two different things. The above means that when it is in the homing state the switches will be treated as a home switch but when IT IS homed then it becomes a limit switch. The idea is that you don't need a limit switch at this end.

If you want to have a separate limit switch then you would not set the home switch as shared.

thHome is shared: I’m not sure if I’m properly addressing what you said but hopefully I am. I have 7 limit switches total (or whatever they are called, they’re linked below) four for the y axis, two for the x axis, and one for the floating head on the z axis. I thought I was going to have it home based one when it tripped those switches bc in my mind that’s more accurate. I think this pertains toat.

The ONLY switches that are used when homing are the home switches ie. one at the top of Z . One of the X and two on the Y .The floating head etc are not use for this purpose

Home sequence: ok so I want z first, then x, then y. Y is two motors so I would have z=0, x=1, y=2, yt=-2 (or is that 2 again?)

The Y tandem axis HAS TO HAVE the same -ve number ie Y1=-2 Y2=-2

Yeah I read the whole document I just want to make sure I’m understanding perfectly. So was I right in the beginning? It uses the Home Search Velocity to get to the soft limits, then it slows down using home latch velocity speeds to contact the switch, is this correct then?

Does this mean that the other person was wrong in his explanation of home offset? In the doc it sounds like once the switches are tripped it moves the axis to this predetermining distance. Does this value still act in the way the other person said as well. Meaning the home offset value may be different for the two motors that are on the same gantry?

That is correct with the difference being that the home latch velocity is the speed that it backs off of the switch.
It can also be set in the ini file to back off a certain distance and set the G54 home or 0 there.

No, soft limits are totally independent of limit and/or home switches. Soft limits are set inside of limit switches and the machine will not normally go past a soft limit, if it reaches a soft limit it will stop and give an error message. Using the soft limits is one of the reasons for homing.

Home ignore limits: ok so with my plan to use the limit switches as the homing this would be set to yes?

Home switch shared: ok so since I have four for they Y (two of which are used in the homing process) then they are not shared bc they are separate?

Homing sequence: ok, I don’t have a switch at the top of the z axis, so I’ll have to just use soft limits for that
